I have to say, while I enjoyed this book, I didn't love it as much as I did the second one. But I still really liked it and I am quite satisfied with that end. I do recommend this series to everyone and anyone.

Well, overall I did think that it was a solid final book. Although there was a whole lot less of enjoyment here. I meant it.

The story behind with Evelyn and against Captain Goode. Who is one of the least charmistic villains since he barely makes an appearance, which unfortunately will have at least made this far more of a memorable book.

And the first person narration is just way way too limited, since we are only siding with Evelyn and I didn’t care for her as much as I did before, she is sensible, but not compelling as a main character now as before.

And yet, I don’t think the story delved deep into her psyche and the reason why she felt the way she did. It was superficial, but failed to really make it feel like an integral part of her. She doesn’t face it, neither does she end up growing from it.

It was the same. I think more could have been done to allow Evelyn more chance to grow, to really understand why she chose it. It felt like a quick book about action, superpowers, but never went any deeper than that into how it effected the characters.

Overall, solid in all ways but so hollow when it came to the core of the story and the characters.

Title: These Vengeful Souls
Author: Tarun Shanker
Series: (if any) These Vicious Masks book 3
Rating:5/5 stars
Format: Ebook

Why'd you pick this book? Jane Austen meets X-men! What more could you want? Plus, it's the thrilling conclusion

Summary: England, 1883. On the run with the grieving Sebastian Braddock, Evelyn wants two things: to be reunited with her friends, and to get revenge on the evil Captain Goode. Not only has he misused his and Sebastian’s powers to rack up a terrible death toll, but he's also completely destroyed any hope of Evelyn or her friends regaining the life they once knew.

Evelyn is determined to make Captain Goode pay for what he's done, but is her revenge worth risking the lives of Sebastian and her friends? Or is it better to flee the city and focus on staying alive? And with the Captain spreading lies about Sebastian in an attempt to flush them out of hiding and turn the populace against them, does she even have a choice at all?

Favorite and Least Favorite part: Evelyn's strength and sense of self is amazing to me. So often reading the protagonists get into something and I'm just like, I'd give up, and they don't and that so empowering. I love these books.

If you like this book you might like: These book are a league of their own, no lie. Check out the Stranje House series and also they Lynburn Legacy series for mystery and romance and just, really good books

After the events and ending of These Ruthless Deeds, I wasn't overly compelled to finish out the series, but seeing as how I already had this one on my shelf from the library, I went for it.

I needn't have.

It wasn't terrible, but I cared so very little by this point. There were still some excellent quips here and there, though far less than in the previous books, and I still love how they use Mr. Kent's ability to their (occasionally hilarious) advantage. Overall though, it seemed to get bogged down by a variety of new characters
to replace the many we lost at the end of the last book
or too much time spent with side characters in general, a much more somber overall vibe, lack of romantic development between the main couple, and just a rather boring plot and execution to top it all off.

Essentially, after losing half of our main and supporting characters at the end of book 2, we've acquired a few new characters, too many frankly for the last book of a series, and are attempting to either hightail it away from the Society or come up with a revenge plot that might take Captain Goode out for good. Lol. Well, they decide upon revenge, with Evelyn being the captain of that particular boat, and spend the rest of the book running amok, trying various plans that all fail, until they find one that works.

This series is sort of ridiculous at times but... that's kind of why I like it? Anyway, this was definitely an enjoyable conclusion, even if my chief complaint is: not enough kissing!

Ahem. Anyway. I freaking adore Sebastian, don't @ me.

After the shocking events that left a grieving Sebastian Braddock, Evelyn wants to put an end to the reign of Captain Goode. As he used his and Sebastian’s powers to kill everyone at the ball, Goode permanently, destroyed their world and any hope for them to return to the life they once knew. But revenge comes with a high price. Evelyn will have to choose between putting her friends in danger, run from the city or just give up. When Goode turns the populace against them, can she find a way out without anyone else she cares for? A great sequel to These Ruthless Deeds and a great finale to the trilogy.

After the shocking events of the previous instalment, I was very curious to know what would happen in this amazing world. I loved every chapter and I felt a little depressed when it was over so quickly.

The plot is captivating, addictive and builds up perfectly. The development happens at a fast pace and throughout the story; the feeling of connection with the characters grows. At the same time, the thirst to see justice done and for the villain to pay for his crimes grows to the point it’s impossible to let go of the book. The world is built to the minimal detail without being overly descriptive. The authors Tarun Shanker and Kelly Zekas continue to surprise me, how much they can bring to life with words and how much colour and depth they give this reality and their characters. The depth of everything is breathtaking.

The reader is taken on a ride on a roller-coaster of emotions as the main characters live through the devastating events at the ball. Sebastien, the main male character, struggles to process what happened and to realise that his powers are responsible for all the death he witnessed. I truly left for him. The way Shanker and Zekas describe his turmoil is heart-breaking and truly brings the character out of the book. He is pushed to the ultimate limit when everything turns against him. Even if the killing wasn’t completely his fault, I felt like his sanity was being tested and I must admit that I feared for it in certain chapters.
Evelyn, the main female lead, turns her pain into anger and aims to catch the person that lead to that moment. She is ready to take him on and while other characters recommend caution, she just wants to face him and has a chance to end it all, to ease her pain and the pain everyone she loves. Her fury, passion, determination are impossible not make a difference in the reader. She is a true heroine with flaws but also with a depth that made me want to know her in person. In addition, the depth the authors describes their thoughts and feelings is admirable and brilliant. I could feel their emotions throughout the novel and almost stand with them through their trials.
Captain Goode is a horrible character that manages to always make narrow escapes. It’s very annoying to read about it. He’s a tyrant with a dangerous gift that he uses intelligently. It makes it really hard to catch up to him or guess his next move. I think he’s a great villain, a good story could never be as good without a bad guy/woman play on the same level or even higher than the good guys. Even so, I kept rutting for Evelyn and her revenge. The authors did a great work in building up the “hatred” for Captain Goove. It definitely added spice and adrenaline to the story. A few new characters are introduced, each one with a unique ability and they all fit into the story, they made the difference. No loose ends, no loose characters. Perfect for me.

A great ending to this amazing fantasy series. I have to get my hands on the paperback versions for sure. I highly recommend this collection to all the fans a different type of fantasy in a steampunk world and a badass female character!

I want to the thank Xpresso Book Tours and the authors for accepting me as part of the book tour of These Vengeful Souls.

I loved this entire series so much that I really don't know how I can possibly do justice to review the final book in the trilogy. I feel like no superlative is superlative enough, no laud laudable enough, and no squealing little-girl "squeeing" can be sufficient proof how fantastic was this world, these characters and this story.

Everything about the world-building in this series was original, unique and clever. As a regular reader of paranormal fiction, I feel I have a basis to say that this world was one of the best, most engaging and addictive that I have read. Every time I started the next book, I found myself instantly and completely immersed in the world to the exclusion of all else. I was never distracted by anything when I was reading one of these books, and I read past my bedtime A LOT while reading these books.

The characters - all of them - are so lovable, even when they make bad choices and don't get things right straitaway, that it is very hard not to root for them and cheer for them and scream when bad things happen to them. I was ALL IN with these people, and I loved every one of them . . . well, except Captain Goode - I definitely DID NOT love him. But everyone else? Oh yes!!!

I loved the cheeky humour in this book - the sniping between Mr. Kent and Evelyn, the amusing interplay between the extended group of the team as they worked towards their objective, the stoicism of Tuffins, I could go on and on, but suffice it to say that I laughed out loud many times while reading all three of the books in this series and the humour was a major feature that made me love these books so much.

I am sad that the series is done, but I am delighted at how the authors wrapped it up - I am fully and completely satisfied with how everything concluded here. This is without question one of my absolute favourite series EVER!!! I loved everything about it! If you like paranormal fiction, you should definitely read this series - highly recommended!!
