I wish reading this book didn't take me two months when i devoured the first two in a week but I found myself not wanting to keep picking it back up. There's nothing really wrong with it but I stopped caring about Severin and Laila a quarter into book 2 and I think that ruined a lot of the magic :/

That being said Zofia is one of my favorite characters in any piece of media which is why this book is still almost a 4 star; I cannot give her less! Enrique is also a wonderful character and I loved every minute in his POV as well- please for the love of god give me a spin-off of their trio adventures im begging

  • It’s good so far, as I’m guessing you were guessing I was going to say.
  • I love Zofia and Laila’s friendship.
  • The mentions of Tristan are painful.
  • Hypnos is upsetting me. Pls listen to Enrique pls. Let me hold and comfort him.
  • I hope Hela isn’t dead because my girl does not need that right now let her be happy pls.
  • And it’s done. My God.
  • I didn’t like the ending. In my head, they all gained immortality and lived happily ever after together.
  • But yeah. It’s done. My God.
  • I’m upset I wasn’t that fond of it.
  • But overall I did like it. Yeah.
  • I love that Enrique wants to be a teacher. And of course he ends up with both Zofia and Hypnos. Of freaking course.
  • I just think it’s time to be done with this series. What a wonderful ride.
  • Looking back, I think I’m just a bit annoyed with Severin and Laila’s relationship? It’s all dramatic and they’d do anything for each other and she’s the most stunning girl I’ve ever seen but nothing about her?…Personality??
  • They never really mention how they like spending time with each other, only that the smell of her hair is intoxicating and he’s really handsome.
  • I don’t like relationships where they love each other but don’t seem like they actually likeeach other. And how they never really spend time together either.
  • I love her writing, it really is stunning, but I just didn’t care for Severin and Laila’s relationship as I did for Enrique/Zofia/Hypnos.
  • They spent time together and slowly started to love each other’s company and it just felt real and genuine.
  • And the friendships they all had were wonderful because they all genuinely cared and loved each other instead of this flowery, infatuation that was constantly described in a lot of detail, which I honestly felt was a bit boring.

EDIT: btw where did roshani get the idea that it's tsinela??? ksjdhgkjsg please its tsinelas

4.5 stars

two reasons why i'm not giving this full 5 stars (mini rant i guess):

1. hypnos was basically just a comedic relief in this book. after the events in tss, thought we would get to explore his relationship with severin but we never see that in this book.

we only got hypnos annoying enrique about finding severin in the first chapters of the book.

2. zofiaenriquehypnos endgame kinda felt like a copout. the whole book built zofia-enrique up. the most important parts were:
"enrique didn't want a forced love. he wanted love like a light, a presence that drove out the shadows and recast the world into something warm."

"for her friends... for herself... zofia would find a way out of the dark."

"even if the world were dark, zofia knew she could be a light.

"you wouldn't belong, an old voice whispered in his skull. know your place."

"how do i know i like you? i don't know. it comes from some other place inside me. the place that believes in superstitions... stories. It feels like... like belonging.

there was even a part where it clarified that enrique and hypnos were not averse to being friends after they talked about their breakup in tss. the point of that conversation is that enrique felt unloveable. that's why he was hurt.
"a secret part of him had always suspected he would not find such love with the dazzling patriarch, and maybe that was what hurt him the most in the end. not the loss of love, but the lack of surprise."

"the words had hit him like a rejection, as if he were someone difficult to love."

on the other hand, the only indication that zofia liked hypnos was in the last zofia pov chapter where she said "i like when you're here." to hypnos. but does that mean zofia likes hypnos romantically? no.

i don't mind zofiaenriquehypnos endgame but building ze up and then suddenly mentioning zeh and then leaving everything to timeskip seems lazy. i understand tbb happens in a span of 10 days but hypnos has been around since the first book. maybe it would have been beneficial to develop all possible realationships - enriquehypnos, zofiahypnos zofiaenrique instead of just enriquehypnos and zofiaenrique.

anyway gonna collect my severinlaila and zofiaenrique endgame and move on. <3

intial review: i’m so emotionally distraught. they’re my best family omg
