Massive improvement to the first for me. Maybe this is because we already know the characters? But the writing style flows better and the entire plots feels throughly planned with a satisfying ending. As someone who wasn’t sure about reading this series at all, I’m excited to jump on the third book.

There was a scene depicting violence against a character who had just started convincing himself that he was safe to go places alone. The elderly character was very introverted and the scene was too intimate for me to handle. It was also jarring because the narration seemed to be leading to a place where the character was safely rebuilding confidence in themselves.
