I do think this could be a good, dark retelling of Peter Pan, but it was just too slow-paced and character-focused for me. I did enjoy Tinkerbell as the narrator and having the story focused on Tiger Lily, but the slow-paced nature lost my attention.

This was much darker than I expected. I listened to the audiobook and sometimes it was difficult to reconcile the childlike voice of Tink with what she was describing. Still it was very good

Dire che ho odiato questo libro è poco. Sono una grande fan di Peter Pan, ma più che altro nel mio cuore c'è J.M. Barrie, l'autore di Peter Pan, su cui ho scritto anche la mia tesi di laurea. Lavorando su quest'ultima ho ricercato moltissimo anche su Peter Pan e posso dire che questo libro non è un retalling ma ha semplicemente preso delle cose di Peter Pan e le ha messe in un mondo nuovo (se ha senso).
Infatti, l'autrice ha deciso di sfasare completamente qualsiasi cosa che Barrie aveva costruito nella sua opera. Non è rimasta nemmeno L'Isola che non c'è, perché anche questa è completamente diversa siccome a quanto pare nel libro della Anderson ci si può arrivare via barca (WTF!!). Però, onestamente, non è neanche stato questo il mio più grande problema.
La narrazione del libro è lentissima. Non succede praticamente nulla, e quel poco che succede a me ha annoiato perché i personaggi (ci arriviamo) non sono interessanti. Personalmente mi è piaciuto il narratore, anche se all'inizio effettivamente è stato un po' confusionario. Le parti più interessanti sono state quelle dove ci si concentrava sui personaggi secondari, ossia sui pirati o sui Lost Boys, ma decisamente non su Tiger Lily e Peter.
Infatti, i personaggi più noiosi in assoluto sono stati proprio Tiger Lily e Peter. Li ho trovati entrambi, ma soprattutto TL, apatici e freddi. Unico bel personaggio è stato Tik Tok, davvero fatto bene. Hook e Smee (in ita Uncino e Spugna) sono i personaggi migliori nell'opera originale a mio parere e anche qui all'inizio avevano TANTO potenziale ma sono stati buttati via. Peccato.
La cosa peggiore di questo libro però è stata la brutta, a mio parere, rappresentazione delle persone indigene. Quando Barrie ha scritto la sua opera ha riportato una versione stereotipata? Ovviamente. Poteva la Anderson evitare di perpetuare questi stereotipi con questo libro? Decisamente. Invece, ha peggiorato le cose, secondo me.

I've been a big Peter Pan fan since I was little. That said, this was a phenomenal take on the side of Neverland that you don't expect to see. It was so moving, emotional, and thoughtful. This book feels like a prequel that I didn't know I needed until I had it. I fell in love with the way Anderson gave new histories, traits and experiences to characters we know, bringing them back to life for a re-telling that could combat the original in my heart. On top of that I really enjoyed Anderson's writing style and use of Tink as a narrator. Further, I highlighted a good amount of this book with quotes that I felt were beautiful such as:
“Still, the longer I was around her, the more I could see the colors of her mind and the recesses of her heart. There was a beast in there. But there was also a girl who was afraid of being a beast, and who wondered if other people had beasts in their hearts too. There was strength, and there was also just the determination to look strong. She guarded herself like a secret.”
All in all, this was a 5/5 for me. The story didn't go the way I expected, but the writing was beautiful and I enjoyed it.
