You just can't go wrong with John Sandford and that is especially true when it is a Virgil Flowers book. This one did not disappoint.

So good! After a long break from Sandford, I forgot how good of a writer he is. Also, Virgil is a top-notch character, unique from Davenport but completely believable.

Virgil gets called out to the Boondocks by an old friend and gets drawn into one conflict after another, each interesting on its own and flawlessly tied into the story.

The best I've read in the series so far, by far. Johnson Johnson! Rescuing puppies! Sandford's hit on the well-loved formula of an investigator looking into multiple cases simultaneously that at some points converge; I hope he takes the series forward in the same manner. A lot less casual sexism in this book; hopefully as the publication dates move closer to present day, instances of such will continue to decline. 🤞🏻⚠️mention of animal cruelty

Particularly fun Virgil Flowers novel; those who know Virgil know what I mean and the rest of you should start at the beginning of the Lucas Davenport thrillers and read them all in order.

I hoped I was in for a treat with John Sanford’s latest Detective Virgil Flowers novel and Sanford delivered for the 8th time in fine fashion. Most know of Sanford’s long running 24 “Prey” novels featuring Lucas Davenport of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. His Virgil Flowers spinoff stands well on its own. Affectionately called “that F’n Flowers” by his colleagues, he starts off with what appears to be a minor sidebar investigation of dognapping in a small town that turns into a multifaceted investigation of murder and mayhem. Sanford laces fine wit and humor throughout and you will find yourself chuckling and laughing out loud with characters like Johnson Johnson, named of course for a boat outboard motor. A treat for Sanford fans old and new.

My favorite Virgil Flowers installment, bare none. Great primary story with a fun back story that gives that comic relief I've come to expect from these books. The school board gang was wonderfully entertaining as I'm a retired educator who can envision such corrupt activities from those given a little power and enough money to make a "regular" person do the unthinkable.
Thoroughly enjoy Frankie's continuing presence. She is the perfect foil to this womanizing chick magnet. I'm looking forward to seeing more of her, so don't let me down Mr. Sandford.
I've read all of this authors books and Virgil has become as interesting protagonist as Lucas Davenport, my hero. This was an excellent read.
