A young girl and her boyfriend go missing after being out with friends, leaving behind their baby to be taken care of by his grandmother.

A writer moves into a college with her boyfriend - who is the new head teacher at the school. Paths collide, writer gets curious about missing couple.

I’ve read other books by this author and while they’re never 5/5 stars for me just due to the writing style, I usually find them fairly interesting. However, something about this book could not keep my attention. I wasn’t interested in the story, couldn’t care less about the characters, and honestly kind of predicted the ending about halfway through the book.

There was a lot going on and a lot of jumps in time, but even switching perspectives didn’t make me want to pay close attention. I read it all, but I wouldn’t read it again.

Hooked me almost from the beginning which has been hard to do recently! Loves the queer representation.

This book really picks up in the last half, which is a good thing because the mystery unravels so slowly. And yet it was so, so satisfying once it did unravel. Sophie was a fantastic audience surrogate, and the couple well-placed twists were icing on the cake. The decision to split the narrative by time and perspective was at times difficult to follow, but in the end Jewell really pulled it off. Excited to read more by this author!
