The ending felt simultaneously cathartic and in part a bit underwhelming. The plot point of Damen's potential child irritated me a little bit, because I just can't understand why it would matter that much, even it were 100% his child. Royal bloodline I guess, but it seems kinda stupid.

This is where we finally fully get to the "lovers" part of "enemies to lovers", and it's done incredibly well. I can fully understand why the characters behaved and felt the way they did in the beginning, and also exactly why the nature of their actions and feelings gradually changed.

Alright you got me. They’re cute. I can overlook the heinous acts on either side they did to each other. Would’ve loved some more angst with that but that’s probably just my sadistic tastes :)

My only gripe is that the ending was a little rushed and I feel like Laurent forgave Damen for killing Auguste uncharacteristically quickly? Also epilogue pleaseeeeee. This series NEEDED a fourth book.

The 4.5 is for the trilogy as a whole, although I think this may be my favorite book of them, even though it really would have benefitted from another chapter or two. I would have really liked to have seen the

fallout from everything. Kastor's death and how his men would have reacted to Damen, how he and Laurent would have actually united their countries, etc.

Actually, honestly, I could use another book entirely.

Overall, this was a fun, if painful ride, and I am glad I finally read it the series. If you're reading a review on the third of three books, you probably already know, but like. Heed the warnings.
