Why did I wait so long to read this series?? It’s so fucking good!! This last book has been an absolutely amazing reading experience. All the puzzle pieces are finally falling into place, everything is on fire and Damen and Laurent are the ones who’re burning it all down. I love that everyone in the book is absolutely gobsmacked at how quickly things are turned on their heads. It had me giggling, because everyone completely underestimates Laurent in every possible way. And I loved that Damen was down for all of it. Kings Rising was such a fantastic read and it’s getting a solid five stars!

This is the third and final book in the Captive Prince trilogy and once again it picked up right where the previous one left off with Damen's reveal to the people around him and war brewing.

This was the best of the three by a lot. I still consider it all to be "book candy" and like with the previous books, so much telling, not a ton of showing, but it was a stronger book than the previous two by a lot. The reveal of Damen to everyone really helped a lot of things, and getting to unpack all the trauma both he and Laurent went through was good. It definitely needed to be unpacked further, but I'm glad we got what we did. Some of the side characters ended up being a good voice of reason and conscience for all of that (Nikandros is the best). There were some absolutely fantastic scenes - sparring scene and whatever they hell they were doing with the disguises was hysterical to read. It was great getting to see everything come together and wind up, but I didn't love how rushed and abrupt the ending was.

All in all, this was my favorite of the three. I still had problems with the book and series as a whole, but it was entertaining overall.

This is the perfect resolution to a nearly perfect trilogy. I will never have words to express how deeply I love these characters and their story. This is, as it has been since I first read the series years ago, the most enthralling and tender romance I’ve ever encountered. I compare all other enemies-to-lovers relationships to this one, but sort of all other relationships in general. Because this series, and especially this installment, is the peak of romance.

I really only have two critiques for this series. The first is a bit technical, I suppose. The books don’t feel like they’re a trilogy. Instead, they feel like one book split by three different covers. Perhaps there’s a reason for this, but it does make the ending of the first two books feel a bit sudden and inconclusive. Obviously, this same problem does not occur in the finale. The second problem with the series is the Erasmus problem, but…I won’t get into that. I only wonder if Pacat wishes the character was resolved differently now.
