I usually live for a college, sports romance like Ilsa Madden Mills writes. This book just didn’t suck me in. It may be part my fault. I’m in a stressful part of my work season. I struggled to stay connected. I also felt like maybe there was a case of trying to please everyone as far as the heroine was concerned. I felt like she was always being described in a way that contrasted with how she was previously described. They can’t all be winners. Maybe if I wasn’t so stressed I would have enjoyed it more.

I voluntarily read an early copy.

A fun college read that balances angst, football, and sex pretty perfectly. Second chance lovers should love I Hate You.

I don’t know why I read this when I did, it would be a fine holiday read, maybe when on a long train ride or the plane or something. Simple and straightforward which certainly has a time and place

This was a great love story

I loved this love story between Charisma and Blaze more because Blaze really didn't have a family that loved him. Clearly it showed because he didn't mention them anywhere after that last phone conversation with his aunt. It worked out for him having the family he always wanted. Time and time again there's been the casual fuck buddies especially in college and feelings become strong on both or either parties. It can be a recipe for disaster or it can work out. I'm glad this situation was turned into a positive one that had a lot of resistance until they let themselves go. Really enjoyed it!

In this sorta second chance romance the hero is not so much broken or damaged, as is innocent to what a normal relationship is like. Never having a real family, he tends to keep his emotions to himself. The heroine hasn't had a terrible relationship herself, but has seen how easily it is for men to stray and has built a wall up to protect her heart, never allowing herself to get too close to a man. Both are strong characters, though we see more vulnerability with him. Both want to deny their feelings, but both are just what the other one needs to get over their individual hurdles. There is a little angst. There is a little bit of humor. There are several sweet moments. Some that make ya wanna just hug them. We are talking college kids, so of course there are parties and sex, though for the most part, they are more on the side than the main attraction. I wouldn't say this is a fun story, because there is so much deep emotional thoughts from the characters, but it isn't necessarily a heavy/dark read. There are some lighter moments throughout, giving it a good balance. It's a well written story that is easy to read, and hard to put down.

*I received an ARC of this book.

Reading the 30 most popular college romance novels for a research project part #8

I can only hope that whatever the love interest's mom was high on when her son popped out into the world and went "ABLAZE!" is at a close proximity to me if I'm going to finish these books with my sanity in tact.
