I was really disappointed in this book. I enjoyed Sam’s storyline and the same with Beatrice but daphne and Nina.....huge let down. First, what the hell was Daphne’s story line. She is an awful person and she gets no repercussions? She almost killed her best friend and her best friend, forgives her?! it makes NO sense. Not only that but is Jefferson the dumbest man alive? He still doesn’t believe Nina? A girl he’s known his whole life, who would never lie to him nor has no reason too? Not only that but how can he not 1000% see that Daphne is driving everyone away?

As for Nina, where was she in this book? Not only that but her love of Ethan felt completely empty and so when she didn’t end up with anyone o was happy she didn’t.

For a book that’s main moral is that women do not need men to succeed.....that’s all this book was. Every interaction these girls had together were about the men in their lives.

Also not to get into it by WHY is the Statue of Liberty in Washington, it makes ZERO sense!!!! The Statue of Liberty was put in NYC because it is a port city, a port that European immigrants needed to travel through to get into this country. Having it in DC makes no sense. Also the Romanovs are alive and still in charge of Russia....HUH?!

Overall, as many claims I have against it, I did somewhat enjoy this book.

Every once in a while I need a YA escape and this series has been a fun one. She does a good job of ending each book in a way that makes you need to read the next one.

So far I’m really enjoying this series, although I did like book one better than this one.

I think my biggest annoyance with the books is that almost all of their issues would be resolved with communication and I get that sometimes that doesn’t happen “for the plot” but it bugs me as a reader.

Example 1: Jeff didn’t believe Nina when she talked to him about Daphne — fine, he sucks, whatever. But why didn’t she tell Samantha? Surely Sam would’ve believed her best friend. Instead, Nina said nothing, Sam had Daphne training her on how to be more princess-like, Sam spilled the beans on Beatrice which Daphne then used as blackmail.

Example 2: Why tf didn’t Beatrice tell Jeff that Daphne blackmailed her? I don’t see why he wouldn’t believe his sister who has nothing to gain. If Sam said something, I could see him not believing her because she never liked Daphne but there’s no reason for Beatrice to badmouth Daphne. Now Jeff and Daphne are back together after she blackmailed the queen. How is Beatrice allowing a blackmailer to continue being so close to the royal family?!

I’m ready for Daphne to get her just desserts. She’s scheming, manipulative, and selfish and doesn’t deserve her happily ever after until she shows some real growth and character development. (3.5⭐️)

okay so tbh i liked this book better than the first one. all the relationships in the first one felt so juvenile, and so under developed, which i guess mcgee knew since she had switched up every relationship in this book. i love teddy and beatrice and i’m so happy that she’s happy. sam and marshall were good for each other and i liked the build up that actually happened between them unlike the lack of the build up between her and teddy in the first book. i also enjoyed ethan and nina. i found nina especially annoying this book. she had some weird sense of main character energy and i’m happy someone humbled her and was like “not that many people care that you’re dating ethan”. like no one really said anything about them. plus her dumbass getting mad at ethan about it and then when he explains himself, she still dismisses him the same way jefferson did. what a dumbass. also what was the point of himari waking up if she wasn’t going to expose daphne??? kinda annoying.
