fascinating and quiet, introspective and slow but still a quick one-sitting read. this hit a lot of beats for me: following the life and perspective of an artist, meditations on aesthetics and the pursuit of beauty, and an outsider watching the disintigration of someone else's life. really engrossing, it does everything you need it to in just under 4 hours of audio.

White on White is a very interesting portrayal of a woman whose stories we get to hear from the narrator as she learns more about her tenant who just shows up one day. This concept in itself is intriguing, but mixed with artistic observations and art as a main theme, it provides a cohesive and rather unique storytelling. A short read as well, but with great depth. Thoroughly enjoyed it!

04/29/24 3.75/5 stars. Quiet and deceptively sinister. I liked the abstracted introspection between canvas and artist. I wasn’t sure what to expect but I expected more madness, more disintegration though I did enjoy the subtlety ultimately.

“It’s difficult to tell whether you are exceedingly polite or willfully blind.”

"I have to say I'm a bit upset about our conversation. This whole time, you've let me go on and on without offering a single word of understanding. You're probably just waiting for me to be off so you can get on with your evening. None of this concerns you, of course. You're just a tenant. You only want to have a place to get your work done. But I hoped for a little recognition, some feedback. Even if you were to tell me that you disagree with my assessment of the situation. It's a human response, after all, even if you don't owe us anything.”

wow i loved this, didn’t want it to end. such a beautifully written book that really made me reflect on friendships, art and how we think about older folks. ayşegül savaş has earned herself a big fan and i can’t wait to read her other book(s)

“we make ghostly twins to carry the weight of our desires.” a quote that flows in my consciousness.

a very philosophical book, relating to art. question relating to humanity and our existence.

although some of the links are hard to distinguish. but overall an elegant short read.
