An emotional tale of a fox and his boy, and their determination to get back to each other.
I enjoyed the fox's perspective and how both fox and boy grew during their separation.
Vola is a great side character too.

Lovely

A lovely story about a boy and his fox. Good character development. Also a sad yet wonderful introduction about war from the eyes of a child.

A children's book just punched me in the damn feels. WTF? When did I start having feelings? I highly recommend this to everyone at any age. Its about the cost of war, family, loyalty, breaking cycles, and selflessness. It's about so much more than a boy and his fox. Ouch. I'm going to go drink a scotch.

*sobbing* I JUST REALLY LOVE FOXES OKAY. 4.4 stars

description

PT: environmental books, books about foxes, children’s books (¿), orange covers

WIL
1) a bond between a boy and his fox. I started crying instantly.

2) war-sickness. I will always love characters describing other cultures from their own POV. Anthropology but make it fiction! Also?? The ripple effect of war as seen by The Innocent? I want to hug every single person in this story (except maybe not the coyote. Or maybe-?)

3) fox8: the longer version with emotions for a whole different reason. (See “I JUST REALLY LOVE FOXES OKAY”)

4) Vola and Bristle and parallels abound. Peter and Pax are the SAME and their parallel narratives are incredible. Sara why have you done this to me I WASNT READY.

Peter rescued Pax the fox when he was little after his family was killed. From that moment on, Peter became “his boy.” When Peter’s father enlists in the war, Peter is sent to live with his grandfather and forced to release Pax back into the wild. Guilt immediately washes over Peter, and he sets out to find his beloved friend again. Will the two reunite or will Pax be lost forever?

Really enjoyed this one. Vola was a fantastic character with her marionettes and things she's trying to move through. The ending was thoughtful and beautiful.
