"Life can be an unpredictable, cruel beast—but I know down to the marrow of my bones that whatever comes our way, whatever happinesses or heartbreaks are in store for us, we’ll face them together. Hand in hand, heart to heart, side by side, Lenora and Edward."

I FREAKIN' LOVE THIS BOOK! This is officially my favorite book from the Royally Series. It was just so, so good. There is something so heartfelt and tender in every moment of this book. I also love that we got a strong heroine, Lenora. I adore and love her as Queen. I love that she doesn't give a fck at what everyone else says but does what she knows is best for her country and people. I also love how Edward balances her out. God, Edward is my dream prince. I love that he knows how to give Lenora a good time and brings out the girl she was before she became Queen. I also love how he brings out the best out of her every time. I am so inlove with them as a couple. ❤

I also definitely ugly cried because of Thomas. Ugh, that pain. 😭

Over all, I enjoyed reading this so much. This is by far the only 5 star read I gave Emma Chase. I AM STILL FEELING GIDDY ❤

Royally Yours (Royally Series #4) by Emma Chase

Narrated by Shane East and Andi Arndt

Complete Standalone Prequel to the Royally Series. Royal Romance, Light Historical, Light RomCom

"Every dynasty has a beginning. Every legend starts with a story. This is ours."

Emma Chase has been a favorite author of mine for years, and she’s one of the rare ones whose books I will buy without reading the blurb. Since I loved the Royally series, of course I was so excited for Royally Yours, but I had no idea it was a series prequel about Queen Lenora! Royally Yours can absolutely be read on its own because it begins over 60 years before the other stories. If you have read the Royally Series you know all about the tough Queen Lenora, and getting to see how she became the ruler and grandmother she is now was more wonderful than I would have ever expected.

Being that the Wessco monarchy is very old fashioned even now, this story takes place in the 1950s and feels like a timeless historical. In other words, the story itself felt like it could take place any time, and since it was told in first person rather than third, it didn’t have the traditional historical feel.
“No woman is born a Queen, no matter the title attached to her name at birth. Kings are crowned. But queens.. queens rise. … And then…they reign.”

Princess Lenora was born and bred to be Queen, and even as a little girl, she took the obligation to her people and her position very seriously. When she is thrust into the position as the first ruling Queen of Wessco at only 19, she was ready. Unfortunately, the Council was not ready for an unmarried queen. Responsible queen that she is, Lenora realizes that the only way she can accomplish anything with the council and her people is to reluctantly agree to marry. The prospects are grim though, until her best friend’s brother, Duke Edward, agrees to marry this beautiful woman who fascinates him.
"God damn, how I want her. Not even in my wildest, most selfish adolescent days did I want to take and take a woman like I want to take her.
Wild and hard, lazy and long.”

While this is an epic romance, it’s also the story of Lenora and her ascension to the throne. Her story is heartbreaking at times. She has lived a very lonely existence, and I shed more than a few tears while reading Royally Yours. It gives so much insight into the Queen Lenora of the future that we read about in the previous books. But when Edward enters her life, the adventurer she used to crush on from letters to his brother gave Lenora everything she needed.

I loved how Edward was all man, yet he had no problem being ruled by his wife. He was everything a partner should be and seeing Lenora as a happy, sexy, witty, fierce and independent woman was an absolute treasure. Though their romance didn’t commence until later in the book, that was OK with me, I thoroughly enjoyed reading the story about Lenora that came first.
"Won’t you miss it? Won’t you miss the freedom, the adventure?”
I chuckle and shake my head, because she still doesn’t understand. I put my hand over hers.
“Making a life with you will be my greatest adventure, Lenora.”

Likes:

  • •Historical that even non-historical readers will love.

  • •First person.

  • •We really got to understand Queen Lenora. Her heart is pure, and her desire to rule the people she loves fairly are everything to her.

  • •The slow burn.

  • •There was a lot more emotion than I expected.

  • •Edward could not have been more perfect for her. I loved how he had no issues with his masculinity given the fact that his wife is the supreme ruler.

  • •She was fierce and headstrong, yet dignified and smart. She knew she had to make concessions to rule how she wants.

  • •I love that this can be read before or after the series.

Dislikes:

  • •The cover. The cover itself is nice, but this is so much Queen Lenora’s story! There should have been the queen, or an object on the cover. A shirtless man kind of cheapens the story in this case.

The Narration:

At first, I had a hard time with Andi Arndt (who is so familiar to me), doing a fake accent even though she did it well. Though I got used to it, I would have preferred someone with a real accent that I never even heard of. The male narration was excellent, and al- in-all, I think the narration added to my love for the book.

The Down & Dirty:

I think Royally Yours by Emma Chase is my favorite of the Royally Series. It can easily stand alone since it takes place 40+ years before the other books. I loved how fierce and independent the Queen was, but we also got to see first hand why she is a bit cold in the future. She has lived a lonely, extremely sheltered existence, and meeting the dashing, adventurous Edward could not have been better for her. I loved how this was very much Queen Lenora’s story, but it was also a sexy, swoony and funny romance. Bravo Emma Chase, it’s another 5-star favorite!

Rating: 5 Stars, 4 Heat, 4.5 Narration

First book of the year and I am sad that I didn't like it as much as I wanted to.

This book was just lovely. Lenora and Edward weren't what I expected at all, especially Lenora. I love her so much now!!!

I'm glad we got their story but I'm a little sad thinking of the previous books and how in Royally's "present" Lenora is still there but Edward died ten years ago like... RUDE. Also Lenora is just surrounded by tragedy?? This book made me very emotional, mostly for her.

Overall I really enjoyed this book and this couple, and that surprised me because I was a bit reluctant at first. It's not as good as the previous books but still really cute and great. Though honestly, when are we getting Jane's book, huh?

3 stars.

P.S.: The guy in the cover has been my Drew Evans (from Emma Chase's Tangled) fancast since FOREVER so lmao, AS IF I'd picture Edward like that, no no.

This was a really fucken cute book. I loved it.
Lenora and Edward are super perfect for each other. Made for each other. Built to be together. And it was so goddam nice that he wasn’t an ass because he held the position of Queen and he is a prince. I also really loved that ‘Lenny’ got a guy like that and didn’t have to settle for a greedy douche.
The first third of the book is just about Lenora’s life as someone who would be a Queen. It starts when she’s a child. Then jumps to her 16th, where she meets Thomas, her best friend. Then a little later when she becomes Queen. Edward is Thomas’s brother - who has spent his life travelling, and leaving his brother letters about his time abroad.
I really liked that the book started this way. And it’s only at the about half way point that we even meet Edward. It give us ample time to get to know Lenora and what is expected of her. It also makes me better appreciate what Edward does for her and how opening her up a little and making her stronger is so important. And he never tears her down which is a bonus since most book have those cliche breakups scenes.

Overall this was an amazing book. I think I still love the second in the series the best. But this is a close second.

I love a good royal story. A young queen finds herself on the throne before she is ready in a patriarchal society that believes that she must be married. Her childhood best friend who is gay, volunteers to marry her since he cannot be with the man he loves. Then he is diagnosed with cancer and that plan goes down in flames. But it brings back his prodigal brother, whose letters have been an escape for her over the years. A promise to a dying man finds the two of them bethrothed.

I loved these two and their love story. It was an easy read without a lot of outside drama. Both of the characters a re easy to like and their story was beautiful.

I've read this book a while ago and forgot to review it... Anyway, it's a lovely book and possibly my favorite of the series. I love the second book as well, but this one was more emotionally-driven for me. Love that we got to know more about Lenora and she is a great character that went through a lot in her life, really enjoyed not only her relationship with her husband, but especially with her best friend. Great addition to the series.

Cocktails and Books received this book for free from Inkslinger PR in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect our opinion of the book or the content of our review.I really enjoyed this installment in the Royally series.  Queen Lenora was such a hard-ass to her grandsons, but it was a special treat to be able to look back and what made Lenora who she was.

Being a princess and the heir to a country did not afford Lenora the kind of childhood others had, including her sister.  She lived by societal and courtly rules, kingdom laws and knowing that everyone is looking for a weakness to use against her.  Lenora didn't have much, but she had a best friend in Thomas who gave Lenora what she was missing from her family:  unconditional love, adventure and understanding.  But when her world falls apart, it's Thomas' older brother Edward who becomes the rock she needs.

I loved Lenora and Edward together.  Even though she saw their relationship as an arrangement, it became clear very quickly this was absolutely a love match.  They made each other laugh, knew there was unconditional support, even when no one else supported them.  Lenora's steel will and backbone often made an appearance, but Edward softened that.

Another great read by Emma Chase.  This may not have all the laughter and banter we're used to reading, but this was an awesome addition to an already favorite series.
