As often happens with Penny's books, I thoroughly enjoyed various twists of the plot. Something that seems an off hand detail turns into the theme of the book. The characters are complex. No one is guiltless. The setting is picturesque, as Three Pines always is. The final lines are a perfect tie to the beginning of this story, to previous stories with these characters, and to future stories for Three Pines.

Another great addition to the Gamache series. This one was a good mystery that also incorporated a lot more character development and sets up intrigue for the upcoming books.

This one was about my fave (Clara) and her heart and her bad husband and her childhood best friend who wasn't really a friend and I LOVED it obviously. (Clara's art show was awesome and everyone thinks she's awesome and Peter can't handle it so she kicks him out for a year!!! f yeah bye forever Peter. Mean art guy Fortin killed her not-bff at her house and also there was some AA stuff that was good. Myrna was around more because she's a good Clara-friend.)
Deducting a star because I'm very nervous about a lot of character threads that frayed a little during this one. Not in a I-don't-trust-her way but just in a this-gave-me-an-anxious-reading-experience way. Is JG going to sleep with Gamache's daughter AND not love Gamache anymore??? That's too many things, LP.

Should’ve been Peter but good ole Louise does it again!
Side note Ralph Cosham is the best narrator in the game I can’t hear Gamache’s voice is any other way

Omg. I want to just sit and cry beautiful tears. I almost stopped reading this series, but I’m so glad I didn’t. This was masterful. Layers and layers of story and relationships and closing and opening circles. I was literally on the edge of my seat, unable to read fast enough. This is why reading is the best hobby in the world
