This was all over the place. At first it seemed like a book for kids and I was wondering if I missed the info that this was a YA book but eventually that shifted and I wasn't sure what it was.

It turned into a weird and confusing story about super smart people with unusual talents in a strange and unpleasant near future. There was a thread of romance that was the connective tissue for everything. Parts of this section I liked a lot. Parts of it I founds totally confusing. Overall I liked it but wished that I liked it a lot more than I did.

Fun and fast read. A little too pointed and heavy handed occasionally, but never for too long at a time.

Well written/the characters are interesting but both nearly apathetic toward major events and each other.

Somewhat interesting. I kept being reminded of the Magicians at various times.

What a great, escapist book! It seems odd to be comforted by a book about the end of the world, but I suppose thats just a sign of the times. This is a strange one for me. I've never gravitated towards sci-fi/fantasy, but the cover called out to me and I'm glad that I picked it up.

The first 100+ pages are about Patricia and Laurence as teenagers, trying to navigate middle school, bullying, and their awkward talents (whether tech or magic) that they still haven't quite figured out. Suddenly we jump ahead 15 years to see them as adults. They have mostly shed their awkward teenage selves, but are almost immediately reminded of the understanding they have for each other - just as they realize that their worlds are about to go to war.

The only part I didn't love about this book is the ending - it seemed awkward and in some ways predictable, while still not really making sense. I still think it was a worth it.
