Adorei! Não conhecia nem o autor nem o livro antes de o ver à minha espera na fnac. Mais uma compra compulsiva bem-sucedida, só tenho pena de não ter trazido também o Eu Mato do mesmo autor.
As primeiras setenta páginas demoram um pouco a desenvolver a história, mas nunca em risco de se perder o interesse. O enredo faz-nos querer saber mais e continuar a ler. Personagens verosímeis, fáceis de gostar pela sua humanidade. Um livro simples, muito bem escrito, sem cair na presunção.
Recomendo a quem gosta de um bom policial.

Having spent so much time in Urban Fantasy, I feel nearly immune to the clutches of other genres lately. I Am God was a shift from the usual and back into fairly straight-forward thriller material. It was refreshing. No teenage girl-power, no deus ex machina, no vampires or werewolves. Just sociopaths and the people in blue who chase them.
Part of the thrill—and frustration—of reading I Am God was the way in which unfolded. It felt really slow at first, very vague in the manner through which it revealed the antagonist. Of course, that frustration was part of the whole appeal of the novel itself. It kept me reading so I could figure out who it was and, several times, I made guesses that were wrong in the end. I didn't see the actual resolution at all. It was crafted quite well.
Overall, this was a satisfying read. I'll probably pick up another of [a:Giorgio Faletti|35371|Giorgio Faletti|http://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1249753090p2/35371.jpg]'s books once I make it through some of the other series I need to complete.

I raced through this book, and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's a translated version of an Italian crime novel set in New York. Vivien Light is an NYPD detective who gets assigned to a cold case when a mummified body is found in the wall of a building. When a building is blown up and the two seem to be connected, she finds herself working with journalist and photographer, Russell Wade. Between the two of them, there's enough "hidden demons" and "past I'd rather forget" to sink a battleship.
It's a fast paced story, and I actually didn't see the final reveal coming. I had NO clue that the person behind everything would be who it turned out to be. So bonus points for that. I think what helped make the story as fast paced as it is was that there was very little "he said", "she asked", "Random character yelled". It was just dialogue. Which worked for me, because that's the way real life IS. So the clarification was only used when necessary.
I actually wondered if it was partly because it's translated from Italian. Because I know in French, dialogue is done thusly in books:

Anyrandomtangent, I'm curious now whether Italian books are done in a similar way. If so, I might be reading a lot more translated books in the future, because I really enjoyed the style.

Arrivo a conoscere Faletti alla tarda età di vent'anni e non posso che pentirmi di non averlo fatto prima.
Nel corso degli ultimi tre anni, ho sviluppato un imprevedibile interesse per il genere giallo, a cui mai mi sono accostata, neanche quando ho cominciato a leggere in maniera ossessivo-compulsiva.
Non mi sento di poter azzardare un'analisi generale di Faletti, non avendo nemmeno mai toccato le pagine del suo bestseller in assoluto, Io Uccido, quantomeno posso limitarmi a questo libro: la sintassi è semplicissima, il che nelle prime pagine mi ha abbastanza stupito, vivendo e subendo il mito dell'autore come uno dei migliori, in ambito thriller, italiano. Nonostante ciò, Faletti mi ha sorpreso con alcune frasi, semplici nella grammatica ma potenti nel concetto.
Mai avrei immaginato il finale, ma penso che nessuno sarebbe riuscito a farlo. Mi ha sorpreso, certo, ma sono rimasta un po' delusa per la conclusione delle ultime pagine, forse un po' troppo sbrigative per i miei gusti e che cozzano forse un po' troppo con il resto della narrazione.

It was a really tiring read. That's the only way I can describe it. I feel like all the flashbacks were too long, the introduction was also weird. I feel like the whole story could have been said in 150-200 pages max. It's not a pageturner that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

foi interessante. não esperava o plot final, mas acho que era esse o objetivo (eheh I'm so funny). gostei mas não adorei. boas personagens, boa história, boa escrita. mas não sei. esperava um pouco mais. não é bem 3 estrelas, é mais 3,5
