I adored this plot. libraries are something i hold very close to my heart, and closure is a problem faced by so many small libraries. I'm glad there's a story out here to show that libraries aren't just about books, they're about a safe space, friendships, and a sense of belonging. Libraries are about the community. Even if you don't read, there's a place at the library, so it kills me that such a vital part of the community is being taken away.

It was such a well written book and I'm totally in love, despite the fact I was in tears for the last like 80 pages. Such a warm story I cannot wait to read again

I really wanted to like this one. I enjoyed the premise, and the heartwarming community feel but it was too obvious that this was Freya Sampson's debut novel. June's life was just so completely sad that it was hard to read, and felt more like a caricature than a character. I would have liked to see more of the work June put in to grow spread out over the entire novel, rather than right at the end. Similarly, the main "romance" lacked any spark, or development and it was difficult to be invested.

The plot and pacing could have used some work. The story felt like it was made up of several connected small story arcs rather one large plot. As soon as you started to hit your stride with one concept, that was abandoned for another. Endings are tricky even for experienced authors, but this one felt rushed, cliché, and a little too easy.

This book would be improved by simplifying the plot a bit, and instead using that space to flush out the character development. It was a cute idea, and definitely had some shining moments but could have benefitted from a stricter editor.

This was such a heartwarming story. And gave such an accurate depiction of social anxiety. I related to June so much who prefers the company of her books to others.

Throughout the book, she realizes the company of others brings such fulfillment and that sometimes the best things in life require you to take a chance and fight for things you care about.

✅Character & Plot-Driven
✅Hallmark movie vibes

Beautiful and uplifting

It’s a pleasure to read about the quaint little village of Chalcot, it’s quirky residents and their fight to save the library. Though predictable towards the end, it turned out to be a heartwarming story. I wish I can meet a librarian like June someday.
