My second Jane Austen novel and honestly it makes me want to board myself up for a few weeks and just read all the remaining ones right after another.
This plus Pride and Prejudice (the other Austen novel I've read) are both, THE EPITOME of a classic. You can't fault her in my opinion. They are wonderful and easy to read and deal with feminist themes and womanly issues with such clarity.
You follow Emma our beloved protagonist as she finds her footing and learns many important lessons about family, love, friendship, and personal growth. These lessons Austen lays out for us can still speak to and relate to the modern reader today.
You're rooting for our protagonist from the get-go and we feel genuine emotion when she messes up and makes her mistakes.
Although Austen felt that Emma would be her least-liked character I think her true honesty, innocence, and redeemable character make her one of the best.
It was a joy to read.

Emma is frustrating but also a lot of fun! Definitely recommend the audiobook versions of classics because the voice acting is superb. I read this first back in highschool, and then I was so annoyed at Emma because I thought I knew better than her. Reading it now, I understand her better and feel her youth. Also immediately watched Clueless after lol

If I liked this book more maybe I'd be able to talk about it more. But here I am making a review giving it only 2.5 stars. I won't complain about it being too long because it's a classic so that much is expected. But this story is not for me. I hoped for Emma to have more character development than she actually did. And I honestly hate the way Emma has this idea of how people might be feeling at the moment and then believes it to be the truth without even knowing the person's thoughts. It was honestly so unbearable towards the ends because at the beginning you could ignore it thinking she'll change but she doesn't really get any better. Also Emma honestly just loves to ruin people's lives mostly Harriet's. Harriet could have been better off without having Emma in her life.
Also really disappointed that I never got enough spring vibes that I wanted to read this book for.

Spoiler ok so let's just talk about Mr Knightley being a pedophile. The part where he described how he has loved Emma since she was 13 and how she was saying that he has helped her by criticizing her as she grew up. That screams grooming to me. And it's actually so disgusting how he was literally 29 when Emma was 13 and he has the audacity to say he loved her since then?! It also feels weird how he didn't marry for so long and it can be interpreted as him only ever loving Emma and not marrying anyone that wasn't her, because the only reason he didn't marry her was because she was just too young. So overall quite disturbing.

“My Emma, does not every thing serve to prove more and more the beauty of truth and sincerity in all our dealings with each other?” I think this quote sums up Emma as a novel, if they all were open and honest from the start there would be no book but I’m glad, it wasn’t that way, because I’ve just finished, now I can say one of my favourite Jane Austen books
