This book's talk about "primary" and "secondary" partners, one penis policies, veto power, negotiations, permission, etc. feels very dated and reeks of couples privilege. If you're new to polyamory, using the language and attitudes of this book can raise serious red flags for folks more experienced with polyamory and send quite a few running the other way. It's very much written from the perspective of couples opening up to dating additional people on their terms with little consideration for how these attitudes hurt others. There's a little talk about other ways of doing things, but the ways that this book legitimizes couples privilege and hierarchy is disappointing.

Also, it's written from a VERY cisgender and binary gender perspective.

If you're new to polyamory, I highly suggest looking up relationship anarchist literature and work on any feelings of ownership and entitlement you may have over romantic or sexual partners.

Fascinating look into non-monogamy sparked by my reading fiction about a poly relationship.
