A cautionary tale of hubris and bro-culture, and what happens when your company is defined by it. I thought it was a fascinating read from front to back. Interestingly, Travis Kalanick isn't completely unsympathetic in this book - I think the author did a good job of conveying that he is, in fact, human, and is capable of feeling shame and grief just like anybody else. Still, he created a company that was crafted in his own image, and it went off the rails because of it. The ultimate lesson is, perhaps, that a "win at all costs" mentality has the potential for catastrophic results.

Great Book
Mike is a great writer and he writes a compelling history of the rise and fall of Travis Calanick. You should read this.

Everyone ends up very wealthy at the end despite sundry crimes and moral failings. Uplifting!

Would be better if the author wasn't trying so hard to frame Uber/Travis as the bad guy on every opportunity.

I’m not particularly into Tech, the Startup world, or Finance, but this story is honestly so wild I could not put this book down. If you’re turned off by the subject matter, understand that it’s just a backdrop to a completely sensational, unbelievable, dramatic story about a company that’s incredibly relevant in most people’s lives. It would have been difficult to make this story uninteresting but I think the author did a fantastic job of keeping attention even through the minutiae (which was still necessary) and excellently framed the aspects of the story that we as the reader should care about.
