I liked this book and I like the discussions of ways that books have written things before. For me personally, I wish for a slightly broader discussion as most authors and stories discussed are for western audiences. But does cover a wide range of topics and references many different books, games, and tv shows.

I would highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to worldbuild. I think the struggle for most worldbuilders is being able to think outside the box and examine the implications of the things they are creating. I think Tim does a great job of bringing those things to the forefront and asking the right questions for worldbuilders to really grow in their craft.

Much better formatted then the first, and the content is just as good, if not better.

Thoughtful and intriguing. Tim brings a wide variety of thought provoking perspectives to storytelling - it’s a definite aid in trying to develop stories and worlds of your own

Great book, just like the first. Really going into detail about how to write one's stories and how to detail one's world. This book felt more focussed on fantasy and sci-fi than the original but I think that works to it's strengths. [a:Timothy Hickson|18990222|Timothy Hickson|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1625382922p2/18990222.jpg] is a great help to me in how I write stories and touches on some really great points of development in this book though I think it works primarily with fantasy authors. When looking at generic fiction I'd suggest [b:On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft|10569|On Writing A Memoir of the Craft|Stephen King|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1436735207l/10569._SY75_.jpg|150292] by Steven King. Anyway that's my two cents worth.

Hickon's writing has improved between volumes, and is less reliant on distracting attempts at humour. He draws from a much wider selection of examples and more frequently than not uses quotes and explanations to really make the point clearer.

This book is full of useful food for thought and several useful questions, but still remains quite light for my tastes. It is very much for the beginner.
