So far this is the best book to become a crime drama i've read so far

I didn't care. I did not connect with the character or the mystery.

This is the first Deaver novel I've read in years, and, as always, one a thoroughly enjoyed. Only after reading did i discover it was part of a series, although there were several indicators of this in the novel itself.

Anyway, the short and sweet? Colter Shaw (a private eye? Rewardist? Self-proclaimed survivalist) goes on the hunt for kidnapper. I don't need to tell you thr plot, you can read that for yourself... My opinion? i quite enjoyed this modern take on a crime thriller. Just as you think you knew what's going on, the book takes an unexpected turn.

Why didn't i give it five stars? Well, for me to do that, the book has to be one that i simply cannot put down, and although this is a good one, there were times where i felt the book dragged on. Personally, i am not a fan of a series, as i often feel the subplot and background story interfere with the story itself. I think this was especially the case because i didn't know it was part of a series going in, and maybe if i had known that it would have irritated me considerably less.

A new Jeffrey Deaver, a new series, a totally new main character - can't get much better than that. Colter Shaw with his interesting survivalist background and his desire to find innocent people and help victims will, I hope, lead to many more books just as exciting as The Never Game was. I saved it for a time when I knew I could read non-stop and I didn't stop until the end.

This was a re-read (Maybe third or fourth time?) because for some reason, StoryGraph was showing I hadn't read it.

Jeffrey Deaver has always been a favourite of mine - The Sleeping Doll is the book that really got me into reading over a decade ago, and the Colter Shaw series is my favourite of his.  It's well-written, his adventures/jobs are fun to follow along, and the underlying mystery of his father/brother is fun to follow along - it's never the main focus, but I still find myself wanting to know what actually happened there!

This book was good - it's nothing spectacular, but it's a solid read.  The premise has been done before (Killer bases their kills on a video game), but it was done well.  It didn't feel stale or like it had been done before, and it was still fun to follow along.

Fun and clever. I think I like the TV show version better. The book explains where the TV can show, which for this type of story can work better. I'll keep an eye on this series though as a filler, at used book stores etc.
