We’ve all been anxiously awaiting a new book from Gayle Forman, right? I was left heartbroken and in love after If I Stay and Where She Went. Just One Day is very different from those books, but it still captures some of the same feelings. I certainly loved it.

You really can’t go wrong with books set in other countries. Just One Day starts out in Stratford-upon-Avon where Allyson is having a not so great time on a teen tour. That all changes when she meets Willem. The next thing she knows she’s having a one day adventure with him in Paris. Sounds like the most romantic thing ever, huh? It pretty much was.

Allyson wasn’t your typical YA main character. For one thing she’s older that most MCs. She’s 18 and just getting ready to start college when the story begins. Her personality was really realistic to me. She was so unsure of herself and she felt like an outcast compared to her peers. She reminded me a lot of myself, actually. I thought it was so interesting that she really struggled with school and her friends after her day with Willem. She was depressed for quite awhile and that’s exactly the appropriate reaction to a breakup, but you don’t see that often in books. Her growth throughout the book was remarkable.

Willem really wasn’t as swoon-worthy as I was hoping for, but I did really like him. He’s still somewhat of a mystery to me. I have a feeling I’m going to fall head over heels for him in the sequel.

Just One Day was a refreshing and different contemporary read. It was a lot of fun and almost impossible to put down. I’m already anxiously awaiting Just One Year. I can’t wait to see where Gayle Forman takes us next.

I really loved this book and I just can't wait to read the sequel. I got so attached to the characters throughout the story and when I finished it I just wanted to stay with them. Seeing Allyson evolve and following her thinking was really interesting and I found a lot of myself in her. I didn't expect to like it so much when I started it but I couldn't let go of it and the story stuck with me for a while. It makes you crave for travel and Shakespeare's plays.

This book pulled me right in and I couldn't put it down. The only thing about this book I didn't like is that it seems unrealistic with the situation of Allyson and Willem. But I must remember that this is a work of fiction. I am glad this wasn't a romantic story, but one about self-discovery and not letting people make decisions for you. I may end up skipping the second book and just read the novella of Just One Night because Willem's point of view doesn't interest me. Can't wait to read the novella.

Be warned… This is a cliffhanger. It is told from Allyson’s point of view and I could not wait to see what happened next, well I downloaded the next book only to find out that it doesn’t continue on, it’s actually told from Willem’s point of view. BOOOOO! Other than that, it really was a great story that takes the reader on a romantic journey to find a love that it so strong. I really enjoyed how Forman was able to take me to different locations in Europe. It reminded me of one of my favorite movies called “Before Sunrise”.

I loved this book. It is absolutely one of my favourite novels of all time. As I read this book, I thought it would have been not as good as If I Stay and Where She Went, but I loved it nonetheless. I can't wait for the next book and the novella story! There was a real sense of beauty in this story, maybe it is because it's a book about traveling. I learnt many things from the themes such as we should never give up on our dreams like traveling around the world and to embrace life to the fullest because one day you might regret it.

I do so love journey novels. That's why one of my favourite TV series is "The X Files" -- the beauty is in the QUEST. In the seeking. And then is definitely that kind of book -- it's Allyson's journey as she looks for Willem and more importantly, for the lost version of herself - for Lulu.

This bit?
SpoilerWillem holds my wrist for a long moment, looking at that birthmark. Then he lifts it to his mouth. And though his lips are soft and his kiss is gentle, it feels like a knife jamming into the electrical socket. It feels like the moment when I go live.
. Ahem. I pretty much FELT Allyson wet her pants right about then and I was with her -- Willem is astonishingly sexy for a YA novel and you could tell he knew what he was doing. That is devastatingly attractive.

More later!

SPEECHLESS.
