A novel, although it is a bit more poetic. It's the story of two "dudes" who sit and talk about things. That's what the book is, them talking. It's brilliant and I love the chemistry the two characters have. It's quite humorous too.

Huh?? Two guys with nothing to do sitting around yammering. Maybe if I had nothing to do I'd finish reading this. But I do ... and so I didn't.

Not quite as revelatory as The Interrogative Mood, but not far off. Powell is an incredibly funny writer. The book consists entirely of two unnamed curmudgeons blabbering away to each other. Either you will love that or you won't. I adored it. It is full of dazzling, sad, ridiculous, wonderful sentences that capture the feeling of living in the modern world.

This book wasn't really for me. I did laugh a few times (any mention of Studio Becalmed or Final Alps of Heaven made me chuckle, for sure), and there were even a couple of moving statements woven into the conversations. But for the most part, nothing changed or progressed. I grew bored and had a hard time sticking with it.

Hilarious retelling of "Waiting for Godot." There are many stupendous one-liners throughout the book.

I really enjoyed The Interrogative Mood, but didn't get this one. Was it meant to be an updated Waiting for Godot? Most of my enjoyment came from trying to mentally describe the two speakers. Phillip Seymour Hoffman and John C. Reilly? Patrick Stewart and Ian MacKellen? James Franco and Seth Rogen? Anyway, I hope the next reader gets a little more out of it than I did.
