I got through the beast!
I was on the verge of a reading slump all through reading this book. It was in no way because of the story though. I was always wondering what the next twist would be and I really enjoyed the character's.
Ashalia and Davian were my two favorite povs and I can't wait to see where everything takes them.

I read this entire series over Thanksgiving break one year. These books are beefy. And really good.

DNF.
I've seen this book multiple times at the library but I was never sure enough to pick it up. The summary was interesting, the cover was definitely interesting but I wasn't 100% on it. I guess my instincts were trying to tell me something because although this book started out very strong for me it quickly lost its flame. I actually forgot I was reading it the past few days (although that could be due to my busy schedule?). Either way, I feel like this book has a lot of promise to it, I just can't see it. So I'm leaving this book for now. I might return to it, I might not. We'll see?

This was a really fun read. Although it was hard to follow all of the plot lines that were created in the first book, it still was super enjoyable leading up to the final act. Super excited to start the next book!

Genre: adult epic fantasy
Rating: 3.5/5 ⭐️
This book started really well, and I was really intrigued for the first 150 pages or so.
I have to say that the author does a great job at introducing the world and magic in an easy manner that doesn't make you confused at any part.
However, after that, more side characters kept being introduced through the various uninteresting things happening to the main characters, and all the names became jumbled in my head...
I also realized that this book is not character-focused and even the main characters didn't feel fully fleshed out to me by the end of this nearly 700 page book!
Moreover, this book heavily relies on an overall mystery over the trilogy, but as things don't make sense or rather are not fully revealed to us for now, it relies on trusting the author's creative process, which is hard for me since this is the only book I've ever read by him.
I am overall interested enough to continue this series, but I am not fully convinced that the series overall will wrap in a way that will satisfy me.
