Some good points in here I'm sure but it was a tough read. It felt like a brain dump rather than a well formed argument for a different way of doing things. I'm none the wiser as to how this could be achieved or what I can could do to help.

I was expecting this to be more of a how to guide for an individual? But it was more focused on what needs to happen politically. An informative book, but not necessarily useful for me personally. It did make me realize how slay a universal basic income would be though, idk why I hadn't realized that before.

A short book highlighting the connected nature of many of our structural and systemic social and environmental issues. Wright challenges the current dominant socio-economic system of capitalism. He argues for a tactic of eroding capitalism wherein collective action pushes both for the dismantling and escaping of this current system. I really enjoyed this book and how it challenged some of my own ideas about the role of economic structures in larger social and environmental contexts!

UNFINISHED

REVIEW RATING SYSTEM - [ 1 = FELT DECEIVED, 2 = NOT WHAT I EXPECTED IN A BAD WAY BUT WASN'T A WASTE OF TIME, 3 = WHAT I EXPECTED FELT LIKE MY TIME WAS USED AS EXPECTED, 4 = PLEASANTLY SURPRISED, 5 = THINKING ABOUT IT MONTHS LATER ]

RULES : (1) can not give anything a 5 outright, must either be a re-read or a update to score, (2) can not give incremental ratings, except for 4.75 which is functionally a "revisit in case it is actually a 5", (3) I should always end with a "this leads me to think" of 2-3 ideas this book roused in me.

One of the most cogently argued books I’ve read. Despite being written in a short and accessible manor, the book covered a breadth of topics and ideas.

As an anti-capitalist, this book is very disappointing. He litterally argues against revolution and places political/economic reform as a solution. Reform is a necessary precurssor for revolution, but he does not even entertain the idea of a revolution in the U.S. Does a good eduaction of the ills of capitalism, but ultimately fails in effectively arming the reader with the actual tools necessary to be an anti-capitalist.
Also, lacks a feminist or racial understanding of capitalism.
