This was such a unique experience to listen to. It’s like if an episode of Planet Earth were made into a full length fiction narrative.

I was surprisingly emotionally invested in this. Definitely recommend for anyone who loves dinosaurs like I do.

Read this one during my shift at the gum chewing factory. Not quite as sweet a job as you might think. Mostly because it's unsweetened gum. Yeah, they were worried about us getting to into the flavors ever since what happened with Gary sucking on the end of the peppermint syrup hose. Gary was my coworker and also my dad's school friend and I guess I look like my dad but child-aged cause Gary kept getting confused and asking if I wanted to play four square at lunch. And like no I do not that's when I do my amateur crime solving and try to catch "the macroni bandit" who's been eating all the cheese powder out of boxes of Kraft mac and cheese at the grocery store and then putting the boxes back on the shelf. But anyway Gary got so into the peppermint flavor and he wanted more and more and so he turned the pressure up so high accidentally blew a candy cane scented hole through his head. The book was good.

I found some of the story to be a bit far-fetched and I have to remember that this is an actual paleontologist that wrote it. I am sure that Dr. Bakker knows more than I do and it makes me wonder how close to the truth this could be. It is fascinating to think that raptors could be that advanced in their thinking and in the way that the olfactory sense works. It was an interesting read but I was hoping for something that could keep my son interested. He is a reluctant reader and I don't think he would enjoy it.

Narrative from the point of view of a Utahraptor named Red, interspersed with lots of informational tidbits about Utahraptors and other dinosaurs, as well as the general environment at that time.
