Beautiful collection of maps and fun tales of fake locations - but it was organized alphabetically, which was odd and made it feel more like a reference book. I would have preferred if it had been organized by time period or region instead, it would have felt less disjointed.

Finally finished this book. It was an interesting read, as the name suggests its about mapped places that never existed, whether they were mirages or outright lies.

A bit repetitive but I suppose that's the story of how discovery and debunking was made. Of the three books by the author I have read this was the weakest. Probably due to me reading this after The Golden Atlas. There was a bit of overlap between the two.

I'm glad to have finally read this book, good but not great.

Would love to give more stars but honestly it was just an okay book for me. I have to admit that it was highly researched, so kudos to that. And I'm loving all the maps in the book. Unfortunately, some of the quotations in the book that were taken from Old English were difficult for me to understand, and I kind of hoped would it be possible for it to be rephrase in modern English to help others to understand it more. Other than that, it's a fun read, especially if you're into history of places, that are most probably not real, but were thought to be real at some point.

A beautifully illustrated collection of maps of places that never existed.

Unfortunately, many of the tales of how mistakes were made are very similar.

Very good book about the truly weird and wonderful things people made up and believed about the world around us. The ones you can still see on google maps are the worst offenders!
