I had to stop reading this book as it is glorifying grooming. FMC is 17 when she meets 32 yr old MMC.

While FMC is still 17 he watches her masturbate & jerks off to her doing this. When she turns 18 (add in she was kidnapped by MMC & there is a savior complex between the two) he makes his move on her 18th birthday. MMC POV even mentions that he was plotting & planning over the 1 year.

Even with FMC turning 18, she is still a child and a victim of savior complex by a man 15 years her senior. Author, please rethink the message & fantasy you are presenting to your readers.

This book was extremely good. It was emotional and well written, with a great found family aspect. It's also really dark, and extremely spicy. I really loved the characters; Juliet was feisty and wild. My heart broke for her having lived through her trauma. Maximo was domineering and sexy, but I love how he cared for Juliet with his entire being. I will definitely be reading more from this author in the future.

She’s 17 when they meet and he’s wanking to a live camera feed of her in her bedroom. Then waits till her 18th birthday to fuck her. But wanking to a 17 year old is weird. It was a weird book. It was uncomfortable. He was basically grooming her and she basically got Stockholm syndrome bc he locked her away for a full year. Again it was weird.

Not my particular kink, but I was curious enough to stick with it for 141 pages.  This repeatedly invites the awkward question of at what point is the age difference/power dynamic hot, and what point is it just… grooming by Stockholm Syndrome?

Juliet starts as a fighter, but is way too ready to give up her freedom for this man she’s only ever caught glimpses of.  Maximo spends so little time on the page that I have absolutely no feelings about him whatsoever, and I’m disappointed that his “obsession” is just characterized as
casual masturbating while looking at a camera.
If this had been creepy or emotionally complex, I would’ve kept reading.  That said, Freddy is my favorite.  Freddy deserves all the love.

Two lines I actually really liked:

He wouldn’t take me to a hospital if he were going to kill me. That’d be like giving a manicure to someone before hacking off their fingers—a pointless waste of time.
.
“Christ, I’m offering paradise and she wants hell.”

Besides the literal grooming that Maximo admits to, it was a fun read. I appreciate that
he waited until she was 18 and stayed away from her until then. Still don’t love that he had sexual feelings for her then
