Dominic, has gone through his existence alone and as one of the most powerful Carpathians he knows what better way to go down than with honor, so he ingests himself with parasitic blood so that he can blend in with the other vampires, and accomplish his mission that he set out to do. Only there is one hitch to the plan on his way to accomplishing his goal he finds his lifemate-Solange, who is everything he could have hoped for in a mate, and knows that he can't bind her to him and that he must let her go because he gave an oath. Solange has always felt alone, being a warrior and trying to save the females of her race, and now she plans on giving up once she destroys Broderick her father who has destroyed everyone and everything that she has ever loved. Then Dominic comes into her life and her world changes, and she knows deep in her heart that she will fight with every breath to keep him at her side...forever
Dark Peril is the 21st in the Dark series. I have just loved reading this series, and although I did enjoy reading Dark Peril it wasn't my favorite but still a intriguing read. I loved the whole edge in the story where they both plan to die but right before they do so their life mate comes into their lives---interesting timing wouldnt you say? The passion between Dominic and Solange is full of heat and spiraling desire that only intensifies the connection between the two. What I have always enjoyed about Feehan's books is the vivid pictures she brings to life and she definitely brought this story to life as well. Overall it was a enjoyable read, not one that I would buy or re read, but it was still a book to relax myself in.

My Favorite Quote

Dominic didn't stand out as much as I'd hoped, what with all his legendary status, but he was great with Solange, knowing she needed to be a warrior. He let her take her time at learning to also embrace the parts of her that weren't warrior, as well. As for Solange, I hadn't liked her very much in the other books. She was quite abrasive, and very against all men. In this one, however, we learn that she had been meeting Dominic in dreams for years. They each thought they'd invented the other, and it was so funny when they discovered that they were both real people. The plots with the vampires, as well as the stuff with the jaguars after Solange kept the book from being too slow, but the primary focus was on the romance, and Solange's growth. While this wasn't my favorite, I found it enjoyable, and I'm curious what some of the discoveries in this story hold for future installments.

OK, The book is 342 pages (that is the actual story not including the appendix of language and lessons of the Carpathians). Of those there are 40 spent in the cave, then a small action scene, then 60 more spent in the cave before the action (actually in the cave) begins. So there is 242 pages of story here. The 100 pages is filled with emotions, incomplete sex, and more emotions. The big problem with the cave scene is it takes away from the character of Dominic and Solange.

Solange is a great powerful character until her, as one reviewer called it, wishy-washy attitude in the cave. It is repetitive and she goes back and forth to acceptance of her womanly beauty, to not. The same feelings, of acceptance then denial are repeated over and over.

Dominic seems to admire Solange greatly and accept her warriors soul but somewhere in the cave, he seems really manipulative. Did anybody else get this? OK, so he was trying to get her to accept her woman but it just didn't go for me. It was more like it was forced. In the end I felt like he only really cared when she got seriously ill.

OK, so 100 pages of really boring and take away from the characters cave story. Still there are another 242 right? Well the first part was just a little too descriptive for my taste but had substance, slightly repetitive, and got the story off to a good start but then came the cave. There was a scene in the middle of the cave that seemed to push the story forward again but then 60 more cave pages to make you dislike (yes actually dislike) Dominic and Solange. Then finally, finally the story gets going again and redeems itself, with a little twist in the end.

Well I have been saying this about the Carpathian novels since I read Dark Gold which was the first I thought about like this, "This one should have been a novella!" Take out the excess emotions, and sexual scenes, and describe a little less of the foliage and animals and you would have a good, maybe even very good, story of a little over 200 pages. She could release 2 stories at once in a double novel. I have enjoyed her novellas greatly, Dark Descent, Dark Dream, Dark Hunter, all great stories that even seem a little short (not a lot).

I've really hated the Carpathian language and Chants in the past but really the complaints are unfounded in this one. There are only a few times that he uses more than a word. Yes, it distracts. She should just write a Carpathian's Companion book for the appendixes that she has added. I really didn't see much of chants and the little poems at the front of the chapter were OK but didn't add for me.

I actually like the addition of mages, shape shifters and such because the stories need something new and she seems to add it in pretty well. I like Dark Slayer quite a bit (a little different from some) but in the end the distractions of language and chants and the pages of them healing made me rate it a 3 1/2 on the 4 star side. This one wasn't as good and I really wanted to like Dominic's story. It was OK. I won't pre-order her next one. This is the last one unless the next one comes out as a novella!

I’ve read this book before but after many years of it sitting on my bookshelf I decided to reread it an let me to you it did not disappoint. The slow revolve with solange coming into her self an realizing that she can be both woman an warrior was magnificent. Dominic’s patience for her was amazingly written. Over all a good book to read an dissect.

A good addition to the DARK series. A very romantic read with a Carpathian hero who, unlike most, is strong enough to let the heroine be a warrior. Two protagonists who have both moral obligations and a true sense of right and wrong. They fight to save the unprotected and find each other just when they think all is lost.

This one brings us more information about how to save the Carpathian race and two more characters I enjoyed reading. Their struggle is not how to love each other - that is why it's so compelling. Rather their struggle is with how to stay alive so they can be together.

Another spell binding story from Feehan! In this relationship-driven novel, you will find a romantic and thrilling tale. Carpathian fans are sure to be enthralled!

Dominic is a Carpathian warrior sacrificing himself for his people. A short time ago, he volunteered to infect himself with vampire parasites into to infiltrate the vampire forces as a spy. He found this as no hardship since he was on the verge of turning to the dark side anyway and figured his sacrifice would result in an honorable death for him people. The only thing keeping him on the edge of sanity is the image he has created of his lifemate. The one he converses with in a dreamlike state. Down to the last detail, he has created her as a figment of him imagination and it is the thought of her alone that saves him from completely losing himself to the dark whispers of the parasites inside.

Solange is a jaguar shapeshifter on a mission of revenge. She has lost many of her family and friends to her father’s psychotic dreams of pure blooded shape shifters. He has sought out the females in her life and either tortured them or killed them right before her eyes. Forced to endure a horrible childhood, she has lived a secret life as her father thinks she was killed during one of his attacks on her family. Really, Solange has waited patiently for her revenge. Now she is moving in closer...trying to discover more about her father’s evil plan in order to use that knowledge against him. She knows most likely she will not survive this showdown, but she will not go down without taking her father with her.

Two warriors...both set on sacrificing themselves for the greater good. Neither have many ties to this world and resign themselves to a noble death. Then they find each other and suddenly realize dying is the last thing they wish to do.

He laughed softly. “You shocked me as well. We have bad timing...maybe the worst timing of any couple in history.”

The last few Carpathian novels had lost some of their sparkle and it was beginning to look as if the series was hitting a plateau. They were good, but just not holding the same magic as the earlier novels. Dark Peril completely breaks that trend. This book reads as if Feehan as found her stride again, the characters were magnificent the action was vivid and writing was extraordinary. If you’re looking for a novel with emotional punch...Feehan will always deliver. Her Carpathian characters are never about just falling in love, but an out of this world romance. One that transcends so many different levels of being. Its about nothing their mate inside and out and connection with the other person on a much deeper and more complex level. You be hard pressed to find another novel with as much detail and description as this one. I didn’t just read about the characters joy and anguish, I felt it. It wasn’t just reading a book about vampires, but about amazing character dimensions and giving as much depth to their individuality as possible.

Solange would have to be one of my favorite females from this series. She is a jaguar shape shifter with many extraordinary powers, but has many insecurities as a woman. Raised to believe being a female makes her weak, a part of her has crawled into a corner and refuses to face the fears that have plagued her for so long. Finally meeting a man that desires her and one that she desires in return is not only shocking, but terrifying. I love reading the battle scenes with her as a fearless warrior but when she was left alone with Dominic, she was an absolute coward. She was such a contradiction and very intriguing to read about. Her night and day personalities made for a wonderful character.

Finally, I can’t forget to mention how steamy this novel is! Dark Peril pulls you into the sensual attraction between two people and burns up the pages. The intimate scenes between Solange and Dominic are intense and will take your breath away. Feehan has crafted two tortured and lost souls who find each other in a world of anguish and pain to reveal a gentle and compelling romance. Her story is detailed, fascinating and thrilling. You will find a fabulous story in Dark Peril.

Overall Rating: 4/5
Heat Level: 4/5

I just could not get into this book. I can't completely figure out why but for much of the book I felt like I was just skimming through it and had no connections with the characters. A lot of it just seemed to be describing the same thing for paragraphs and pages or even repeating a fact she had stated twenty pages before. I had been looking forward to Solange's story and thought the premise of the book sounded intriguing.

Sometimes this happens with me with Christine Feehan books. I look foward to it and it completely falls flat for me. That's what happened this time. I just couldn't wait for this one to be over with. Maybe if I give it another chance down the road I will change my mind. Here's hoping.

Dark, sensual, everything you will hope to read in a 'dark' carpathian novel.

The idea is quite special, since I don't think there is any other author who uses the animal 'jaguar'. Dominic and Solange is a unique yet perfect couple. Yeah, you would think that I am sappy, but really, this book explains perfectly why Solange needs a man like Dominic who appreciates both side of her while Dominic needs a woman who is strong and yet soft at the same time like Solange.

The only problem with this book is it's a little too long-winded for my taste. I find myself skipping paragraph over paragraph like I always do. So, Christine Feehan, don't take any offense. I'm just like that.

This book is perfect for any P.C. Cast fan.
