Aquaman Unspoken Water by Kelly Sue DeConnick is an interesting series of comics. It follows Aquaman(who I have never been too interested in) after losing all his memory. This is quite a cliche plot point and has been done many times before. The book introduces a lot of characters based off of many different mythologies, which is a fantastic idea, but DeConnick did not detail the characters enough. Detail in general was missing quite a lot during this book, and the plot felt rushed at times, with the final climax not really creating the effect it probably should have. The writing is mixed, some of the dialogue was very well written, but DeConnick’s writing style felt like it did not really suit aquaman and the plot. The art in this book was spectacular in parts, however some of the big actions scenes were illustrated a little clunkily. Overall, an interesting read but certainly not a must-read, however perhaps the comic was just not really to my taste, and someone else could enjoy it a lot more than I did.

I really liked the art in this. The story was interesting as well, enough to want to read the next volume.

I feel bad giving this the same star rating as the other perfectly blah comic I just finished, but DeConnick isn't really shining here. There are too many characters who don't get flushed out enough and not enough worldbuilding to really carry out Curry's amnesia profile. And then a big monster fight. It's fun and pretty but not much more than that.

I liked how DeConnick dove into some more mythology, as well as explored Arthur's amnesia, but the pacing, character development, and exploration of the mythology and amnesia could have been better done. (e-galley from NetGalley)

I don't know a lot about Aquaman generally but that worked out fine because in this book neither does Aquaman (rimshot). I enjoyed this! Kelly Sue is great, I'll read whatever random character she writes about!

I received a free digital copy in exchange for my honest review.

Out of all the DC characters, Aquaman is the one I know the least about. In fact, I know nothing about Aquaman. That said, I surprisingly enjoyed this! Surprising because I didn't think I would be able to follow the story since I knew nothing going in. But, I enjoyed the mythology and fantasy aspects of the story. Excited to see how the story evolves.

I think this is the first Aquaman book I've ever read, and I enjoyed it. Kelly Sue's writing is so poetic and lovely, which really elevates this volume. I would definitely check out future installments.

I've never read an Aquaman comic before, but I love Kelly Sue Deconnick, so I had to read this. And I loved it. The story was great and the artwork was stunning. I can't wait to read more of this story!

This one was so cool! It starts with Arthur on a mysterious island having forgotten his memories after Drowned earth and he is with two beings named Wee and Loc and a girl named Caille who rescued her and then we learn of the strange island and him having flashbacks or glimpse of Mera meanwhile she is busy being the Queen in Atlantis and next we have him battling the ocean and seeing the form of other gods, going to another island where the goddess Namma is and her connection to Caille meanwhile we get this retold origin of the world and Father Ocean and Mother salt and how they are connected to Namma and then the final battle between Arthur and all and then the emergence of the old sea gods and such a great moment for Arthur! Its one of the most epic Aquaman arcs and throws so many new things at us meanwhile also telling about the old gods and this massive history and the art is freaking gorgeous!
That scene of the dragon or the one with old gods and fire rituals or them coming together and the way the artist is able to incorporate the water with Arthur as background just wow! Epic stuff!
