Peo tip: Buy The Broken God before finishing this book. Trust me.

This was a wild ride...er...read.

Everything that could happen does happen. And then some. And still some more.

But I think you'll enjoy the ride. I sure did.

One of the issues I had with the first book The Gutter Prayer was that the main trio that the book focused on felt two dimensional. That the three main characters, though we're different, felt the same. The Shadow Saint did not have the same problem. It might have been due to one of the side characters that did get development in the previous book was a focal point in this one which made adding newer main characters alongside an easier process to adapt to even if it still did make reading the beginning harder for me.

Similar to the first book where the three main characters are all dealing with heading towards a fate that they don't necessarily want to admit to, this book deals with three main characters, all affected by the gods in their own way and I just felt like the character development in this book was so much better than in the first hence the higher rating.

I like how the world has expanded beyond Guerdon to learn about all the different places, though I do wish other parts, such as dragons, would have been forementioned in the first book as they felt a little like an afterthought.

This one has been on pause for ages. Not for any fault of the book, which was just as amazing as the first one, but because it is really complex and I just couldn't follow it for a long while, because pandemic brain had a short attention span. And this series demanded more brain activity from me than ASOIAF for example...

I'm finally mostly back to normal and with a bit of skipping back I finally managed to actually compute and appreciate the story.

We see a lot of old friends from book one, along with a new cast, and new gods, and I was interested in each and every of them, which is rare with a cast as big as this one. There were so many great twists, and turns and unforeseeable things again, along with plenty of miracles and fantastic elements. Just as with book one it should be a chaotic mess, but just like with book one instead it simply works for some reason.

If you enjoyed The Gutter Prayer, you'll love this one just as much!

Maybe not quite as good as the first Black Iron Legacy book, but still a really good book, in a detailed and interesting world. But good lord I’d like a map of the city!
