Real page turner, although historically not 100% accurate. But it left me in tears so I would totally recommend it

This is the type of book you go in knowing the ending, much like watching Titanic.  It is a moving story, and the justice done to the story of Patroclus and Achilles love is well told.  The characters flew off the page in wonderous 3D.

However, as someone who read the Iliad and Odyssey for fun long before I had to for school, I felt that Achilles character was a little too sanitized and kind.  His arrogance and Pride had always been his main faults, and they really only show in the last third of the book.  This is likely unreliable narrator Patroclus, but I still feel it came across a little jarring.

Overall there, and enjoyable, if sad tale.  It is the definition of this story is a love story, not a romance.

This book has left my heart in pieces. I knew what would happen (Achilles fate is addressed in this book and I had some vague knowledge of Achilles' story beforehand), but I nothing could have prepared me for the heartbreak and the aftermath. A wonderfully written story of friendship, love, loyalty, pride, and war.

Beautiful writing. It has a rather detached style of narration, which makes sense as the protagonist is the narrator, looking back on his life. I enjoyed it.

Spoiler Honestly, I read the book because it was all over the internet with people praising how good the book was and how it broke them. Maybe it's just wrong place, wrong time, but yes, Patroclus's death was sad, but it wasn't as heartbreaking as everyone makes it out to be. Maybe it's just the wrong mindset. Maybe I will change my mind if I reread it again one day.

This book is amazing and lives up to the hype. The atmosphere and the story are both beautiful. The characters are so well developed, all characters included the prevalent side characters which you don't see often in books. The writing is amazing. Her use of adjectives and description is amazing. Everyone should take notes. I don't know much about the original story but this is amazing. I will say though some parts of the ending I was like do we really need this? and some parts of the story kinda got me drifting off but that is so over looked in how amazing this book is and the LGBTQ Representation, amazing. Everything is amazing. Read this book. Anyone should read this book.

I honestly expected a little more from all the hype this book is getting lately, but it’s a good book nonetheless. Maybe I just didn’t find it that special since I already knew the story and how everything was going to unravel having read the Iliad.

Despite knowing the original story, the way it is written is truly a treasure. I don't know how to describe how this book makes you feel but it's just beautiful. A reading for the vibes more than for the plot.
