Great series overall, after about halfway thru the third book I got a little bored. The epilogue especially felt unnecessarily long but did wrap up everything in a nice little bow. Love these characters and would still recommend this book!

The first two hundred pages were so hard to get through, super boring. Then the plot picked up but the overall ending was just meh. I absolutely hated the death, that was my favourite character. Overall, just super disappointed in this series, I had such high hopes too.

usually i love the shadowhunter chronicles, just couldn't get behind this one for some reason. the last fifth of the book was just kind of a let down. everything seemed... too easy? it felt in many ways that the book was almost solely to connect it to The Dark Artifices and not enough to it's own trilogy. but maybe im just growing out of YA

sadly this book was kind of disappointing to me for being the conclusion of the series :/ imo the miscommunication was dragged out a bit too long at this point and was pretty much a driving plot point — and miscommunication is not my fav. i love the characters and world so i still somewhat enjoyed this, but i feel like it could’ve gone a slightly different direction that would’ve maybe been better. plus, maybe an unpopular opinion, but i actually LOVE grace and her character arc was so interesting to see unfold! unfortunately though, she was a major player in the last two books but was basically pushed to the side in this one for some (or no) reason. i was really rooting for her and christopher :(

i will preface this review by saying that i think i would’ve enjoyed this a lot more if i’d reread the first two books. i would highly recommend you reread Chain of Gold and Chain of Iron before reading this!!
i found Chain of Thorns to be a bit slow and dragging, the plot was confusing and i know that’s because the characters don’t really know what’s going on but it just left me not knowing what was happening, so i was only invested in the romances, not the actual fantasy plotline with Belial and everything.
half the characters were very frustrating and half were wonderful.
so it was a mixed experience.

like i said above, i should’ve reread the first two books (and potentially the infernal devices as well) however i simply could not be bothered and i also was very excited to read this. there were just too many things i didn’t remember and while i could infer well enough it still would’ve been nice to understand more and also be more invested in the story and characters. i also read it in random chunks across about a week and i think that negatively impacted my reading experience too.
