Ein solider Krimi, der scheinbar ein wenig unter der recht groben Übersetzung gelitten hat. Der Plot an sich war interessant, die Charaktere gut portraitiert, aber alles in allem sehr langatmig und die Übersetzung wirkte wie gesagt sehr unnatürlich.

Etwas seltsam ist, dass alle mit David Millar so sympathisieren, der trotz aller löblichen Eigenschaften trotzdem seine Frau betrunken attackiert hat?! Naja.

Your average, easy read thriller.  Particularly enjoyed being able to follow the clues and stay just slightly ahead of the detective.  No silly last minute perpetrator or motive was pulled out to solve the mystery.  All fit together.

While the plot was intriguing and kept me engaged, I found the author's reliance on the 'gay villain' trope to be exausting. The portrayal of the gay characters was particularly troubling: one depicted as a heroin addict

meeting a tragic end in his mid-20s, and the other committing suicide after assaulting a child.

I felt as though the author had a very narrow and negative view of LGBTQ+ people, which has left me uninterested in exploring more of her work.

The introduction of all the important characters takes time but ensures that each character is developed. I liked the writing style and the way each of the individual storylines and characters interlinked although I did find some elements improbable.
