Many thanks to NetGalley and Lake Union Publishing for this ARC for my honest review.

Bette Lee Crosby is another one of those authors who's books I will grab up in a second! She knows how to weave a well written heart grabbing story every time!
Emily, Gone is no exception. It's a no put-down marathon read.
Six month old Emily, asleep in her crib, is taken from her home....and just when you think you know where the story is going a surprised is weaved in, making for a jaw dropping, rip out your heart read!

I love to read. I love curling up all cozy and warm with a book in hand, whether it be a traditional hard cover book or convenient ebook on my phone or tablet. I love the anticipation as I read the first few pages and become engrossed in a new story. I love when I finish a book for the first time and have to take a moment to gather my thoughts and emotions about what I just read, and know that this story will stay with me for a long time. That is what happened with Emily, Gone.

Emily, Gone is one of those books that you start reading and don’t want to stop. Bette Lee Crosby created such a heart-wrenching yet beautiful story with characters so brilliantly portrayed and words so artfully written. She wrote about topics that are so real, so intimate, and so painful, and then tied them together with her incredibly realistic characters in such a way that emotions were masterfully tugged at and played with. I was in tears quite a few times.

I felt such compassion for the characters, especially Rachel and even Vicki. I can’t imagine having to deal with the cruel circumstances they both had to face with their babies, and their actions accurately portray their sadness, longing, and pain. My heart ached for them. In turn, my heart swelled with happiness and love when reading about Rachel’s and Lara’s relationships and family lives. I don’t want to give anything away so I won’t go into other monumental moments or scenes, but just know that so much happens in this book that you don’t expect, yet it all comes together beautifully.

The experience of losing a child, in any manner, is unimaginable. When children are kidnapped, the parents are often left in a special kind of tortuous limbo, not able to move on or let go.

Crosby crafts a story that brilliantly captures the time period (1970s), the small-town feeling, and the tremendous grief that parents experience when a child is lost. The book follows the timelines of Emily's parents as well as her current life with new parents.

The book has a lot of Southern charm and a strong sense of family and community. There is quite a lag in the middle of the book and the writing can tend to get a little cheesy. The ending is a bit contrived and things are packaged a little too nicely, but overall, this story really captures how far mothers are willing to go and how strong their love can be.

Emmy is kidnapped from her crib when she is a few months old by a woman desperate for a baby. The book follows Emmy’s parents as they fight for their baby and deal with life AFTER. It also tells the story of Emmy and her life. It is a heartbreaking story. I gave the book 3 stars because while the book drew you in, there were parts of the story that were not believable. Overall it is a good read if you ignore these areas.

I love Bette Lee Crosby’s books, and Emily, Gone is just as fantastic as the others I have read. The characters are so real that while I was reading, the story played out in my mind. I watched and grieved with one set of main characters while celebrating with the other. Bette Lee Crosby’s writing flows so well and is so believable that it always feels like she has experienced everything that occurs in her books personally. If you are a fan of Southern Fiction, give this a read!

I received an advanced readers copy of this book.

So many emotions from this book. My heart raced, I cried, I was happy as well as sad. This book has been one of my favorites. It may be a little slow but it kept me hooked the whole time and never skipped a beat. The love between a family can be so powerful within. No wonder every reviewer of this book was crazy about this book! Once you start reading this book, please know you may not be able to stop. This book had me reading off my phone, ipad, anywhere and everywhere, I simply could not put it down. I fell in love with the characters and this story.

Emily, Gone was a solid novel. While the subject matter is a bit heavy, I'd still consider this an easy read. It didn't take a lot to engage in the story, was easy to put down and pick back up and had characters you wanted to root for, even ones that would typically be seen as a "villain". Was it such a great story that when I finished, I said "wow"? No, but sometimes you just need an easygoing, decent book to pass the time. I'd pick up another book by Bette Lee Crosby but I also won't be clamoring for new reads.

Thank you Netgalley for providing me with a copy.

Excellent.

Only thing I would change would be a little more detail in the ending. Great read otherwise. I shed a few tears!
