This was a fine background listen, but I either needed it to be a deeper, more extended romance plot or more graphic smut... like, I just needed one of them to be more in depth than either were.

The plot was actually interesting enough, it was just a very fast relationship development and felt like only the intro to a story, not a whole book's worth of a story.

I dunno, it was all fine I just wanted more intensity.

TW:
rape
,
non-con/dub-con
,
kidnapping, bodily fluids, blood (from animal butchering)

I’ve heard people mention this book quite a bit, and honestly it does live up to the hype. I don’t know how I expected the book to start, but the beginning was shocking, interesting, and I appreciated how quickly you’re thrown into the action.

The romance is intense and as plentiful as you expect, and I did love seeing how the groups have integrated together.

Probably will pick up the rest of the series eventually!

Honestly there was FAR too much sexual violence for my taste- even within the first 40 pages

I mean.... I was entertained.  It's not for me. Maybe check it out if you're looking for a *fast-paced* romance between big strong possessive dumb (alien) man and strong-willed feeble (human) girl.   I was actually into the world-building the very very few times the flora, fauna, or lore was described. That was a surprising plus.
I would have been a little bit more generous on the star rating if not for the violence in the first chapter.   It was a lazy and  borderline offensive way to raise the stakes in an otherwise unserious story.

This book was addicting but it was hard to start the first 60 pages or so had many topics that made me feel uncomfortable for instance rape more than once detailed and not, and a forced abortion on one woman, these topics do not last particularly long but bothered me enough to almost not finish the book. Past those pages the book was pretty good the equivlant of a b rated movie you can't stop watching. It feels like a wattpad story on paper in some aspects. I would recommend this book for the smut alone but the plot had to many potholes to be recommended for storyline. I will say I do want to buy some more of the series so success to the author I guess.

More than a little ridiculous, but solid smut. Novel concept for the world/alien culture. I was surprised by khui being
a symbiote required to survive
, as the idea of
being permanently stuck on the ice planet in exchange for survival
was darker than I expected. I didn't love some of the other implications of khui/the background horror of
all of the women stuck in the planet who don't get doting alien boyfriends and a parasite that makes them into that,
but I also feel like I can't be too picky for what this is.

This edition includes the main novella as well as a "bonus epilogue" and one short story. The epilogue was the weakest of the bunch, as it struggled to convince me that Georgie
has a capacity to learn new, non-sexual, skills.

According to the author's note at the end of the book, this edition removes details of a
violent rape
at the beginning of the book. I honestly thought it was still a bit much, so I'm glad I read this edition instead of the original.

Wow.. My first one star review.

Was this good? No.
Did it make me uncomfortable? Yes.
Was it fun? Barely.

I wanted to DNF it in the first few chapters, but I don’t write reviews for the books I DNF so I powered through it. Just for you dear reader.

—

Let us begin with its strengths..

  • It is only 188 pages long.

Onward to the absolute shit..

  • The plot was trying its best to hang in there, but Swiss cheese can’t survive at such cold temperatures without shattering.

  • The fact that the survivor of a horrific and graphic sexual assault is found dead in the snow and it is frammed as a good outcome is wild to me. 🫨

  • The way this novel talks about fertility is triggering. Basically claiming that beyond their ability to procreate the women hold little use or value in this society. Or even to aliens at large since the ones on the ships at the beginning seemed to have the same plan for their cargo.

I spent the vast majority of this entire experience cringing. Who am I kidding I am still cringing..

I can see why someone out there may enjoy this. However, I now know that monster/alien breeding smut just isn’t for me. 🤷🏼‍♀️
