Abandoned at the 30% mark. Would have abandoned earlier were it not for my love of all things Atwood - but even love has its limits.

This novel was so fascinating, and so unlike any other Margaret Atwood I have read. It is sci-fi, with some utopia elements, and, man, was it fun. It is every bit as thought provoking as Alias Grace and The Handmaid's Tale, but presented in a fun, new package that I loved. If you're willing to go on a wild ride, this book has some important and interesting themes which aren't as talked about in other works. Let's just say it will make you think twice about joining a subdivision community.

5/5 and one of my favorites.

My first review of 2020 will be: good book, very Margaret Atwood, society is scary, weird sex stuff. Biiiiiig question ending.

The first Atwood that I finished, but it won't be my last (time to retry the Handmaid's Tale). Creative, observant, and eerie. The end was funny and continued with the absurdity of the book.

Listened to on audio and I wouldn't recommend it. The voice of Charmaine was grating, likely on purpose, but by the end I dreaded her chapters.

This was a really weird one. From the synopsis I was expecting to love this as I love all that dystopian/secret facility/secret experiments stuff, but this just did not play out how I thought it would at all. My main complaint is the time jumps that happened, especially during crucial moments where I would have liked to actually read through - it was really disappointing to not be able to. Because of this it also felt very rushed at times, I would have liked more time to be spent in getting to know the characters and the facility properly rather than breezing through it. Overall I stuck with it and there were some interesting moments but from about 80% onwards i’d had enough and was ready for the end.

It's 416 pages long and I read it in a day.
