This was a OUABC book for Feburary.
This was a magical realism book about a place on the Underground Railroad, that no one can find unless you are invited in. It spans 1791 to present day and follows the lives of three women, and we find in the end how they are all tied together.
I really enjoyed this book, I didn't think I would. But the writing and the story were beautiful.

Very interesting choice to advertise a book as following three protags and then introduce a fourth one who 90% of the chapters focus on. Lots of boring points and loose ends. It really felt like Woods completely forgot about Gaelle for a while there, and she just never got fleshed out in the slightest.

a good read but a heavy read, if you are white do not go into this without recognizing white fragility and white priviledge. absolutely amazing.

Sometimes you read a book, and you get so immersed in the story it's hard to say anything about what made it good technically. That is what I experienced with this book.
Off course, a huge part of it is build up, again, by the characters, who are not always nice, but always, always real. They are strong, but they fear. They love, they hate as well. They want to not just survive, they want to live.
This book made a big impression on me, one that will last for quite some time.
I received a free copy through Netgalley, in return for an honest review.

3 ⭐️ for me. I really wanted to love this book. I feel like it started off strong and I was very intrigued. Somewhere in the middle it lost my interest. I started to get confused with which characters which. It picked back up towards the last bit, but the ending had me like
