I always read every Gregor Demarkian mystery right away. They are slow, befuddling sagas that ring true about the complicated relationships and identities of people whose backgrounds and histories determine their lives. And they are beautifully written.
This one describes a community that is just like one where I lived for four years in Connecticut. A long-ago murder, a car crash, and a Fourth of July parade.

Meh. I got 35 pages in and didn't care. I got 75 pages in and didn't care. I got over 100 pages and still didn't care. This goes on the no pile.

This story was more engaging than the previous one in the series. Gregor seemed more of his usual self and the surrounding characters believable. Good series overall.

These Gregor Demarkian books have been going on for a long time. I started reading them in the 70's.
Took a break from them a few years ago. They seemed to get bogged down.
This one sat in my bookcase for a while. Glad I finally picked it up. Demarkian is a
retired FBI profiler.
He consults on cases, so gets to go wherever. Helps keep the story line a little fresh.
