Dysfunctional family with a capital D!

I did not enjoy this as much as I had hoped. It was too dark, too mean, too angry. Everyone hates everyone. It takes so much effort to be that hateful. I thought this would be more of a love story but who can love these people?

Also, I can't stand when characters have the same name - it made it confusing at first to figure out who was who. Thankfully, after the first five or six chapters, i was able to catch up.

An extra star for the audible version of this book - Joanne Froggett (Anna from Downton Abbey) did a great job of the narration.

I’m not fully convinced anything actually happened in this book.

I read this book for school but I really struggled with understanding the whole point of it. It just seemed that Heathcliff got his feelings hurt ran away and then came back with the decision to make everyone else as miserable as he was.

They are called classics for a reason!! What a messy messy tale! Mr. Lockwood was locked in on the tea about Wuthering Heights. Heathcliff and Catherine really did deserve each other. Both love a dramatic plan and are stunt queens hahaha Very Joker and Harley vibes hahaha Ignoring the cousin on cousin of yesteryear, happy my babies got their happy ending!

As with most classics, this is best enjoyed if you’ve got time to really sit down and settle into it. I enjoyed it quite a bit; the descriptions of place are uniformly excellent and do a lot to further the plot of the novel, reinforcing mood and themes very, very well.
Some of the lovers feel mishmashed together to serve the plot of the novel, but it’s ultimately not too distracting. Heathcliff is an intriguing protagonist, but I enjoyed the back half of the book much more than the front half; Catherine and Heathcliff’s relationship toxic high school codependent thing didn’t do as much for me as watching the fallout of Heathcliff’s actions impact a generation which had no choice but to deal with him.
Overall, very good.
