I really wanted to read this through before judging it by its cover. Unfortunately, I was as disappointed as I'd imagined. I found the characters flat and the language dull and predictable. The entire premise of the book was cartoonish and unbelievable to me, especially after having worked for many years as a reporter at university (You don't send your random roommate in to cover a story when you're sick - you reschedule!). The dialogue and character development was cliche and unimaginative. It's a story that we've all heard a thousand times, and we've heard better versions. I know it's easier to critique than to write, but this was one of the worst well-received novels I've ever read.

I kept waiting for the good part to come. It never did. This thing had so much hype, and I picked it up to see for myself what that was all about... I finished it because I skipped most of it; Ana is oh, so boring. The smutt wasn't even that good. There was a scene that made me wonder how was she still alive, since she basically gives him a BJ under the water while taking a bath (she never came up for air, I just started thinking she was dead).

Definitely allusions to the Edward and Bella relationship in Twilight...don't know that the relationship is a healthy one. If anything, Christian Grey is obsessive at best, controlling and manipulative at worst. That didn't stop me from downloading the 2nd book...smh.

I really enjoyed this book, I had heard it was not written very well and while I love the content of the book I do agree it had many errors in the text. I still very much enjoyed it and am opening book 2 now! I will probably read it again as well:-) I loved the aspect of the book that they were both going through "firsts" in their own way, some had said Ana gives up way to much for him but from an open mind stand point he really gave up just as many firsts as she did.

mkay, there was sooo much buzz about this book. it had its lovers. it has its haters. i have to say i enjoyed it. i didnt know what to expect out of it. i was a little worried as i kept reading because of the whole BDSM thing (are those the letters lol??) and i wasnt sure how far it would go especially considering its basically my first viewpoint into that. but it wasnt too bad. for me, like some others.. this was a love story. the ending about killed me. i plan on checking out the rest of the series and i simply must know more about christian grey.

on a side note. this definitely isnt for teens. as stated its for mature audiences. i dont care that it was a fanfiction. as a matter of fact i enjoyed twilight so u can suck it if you hated that too. i feel like most of the hate for this book is because it is TABOO. and it completely kills people that women will read this TABOO in public. seriously people its 2012! i wish people were a little more openminded and let other people freely be who they are. you can either like it or not. thats fine. but no need to bash the people that do. && for the haters who havent even READ the book.. come on. get over yourself.

regardless congrats to the author for having one of the most talked about books i've ever known.

oh i forgot. my actual thoughts on the book. i thought the beginning was slightly boring. ana seriously got on my nerves because she was just so unfortunate. i mean she didnt even know what sexual attraction was? (with all her talk about tingly feelings that she just didnt understand.. lol) but then the book progressed for me. i enjoyed laughing at ana and some of christian's world. i found the storyline intriguing and i kept wanting more ( like ana lmao). worthy read.

What drivel. And yet I just started the next in the series.
