The sequel to Cannery Row is another great story, with great little vignettes interpsersing the action. And, of course, with its being written by Steinbeck, one of the world's great authors, it's a well-written gem.

Okay this is a lovely book. I can definitely see why some people might dismiss it as too sentimental, but honestly I kind of love that about it?? I would definitely return to this book when I need to feel good and happy. I had kind of weird deja vu as I was reading it, as if I had read it before, but I definitely have not. Steinbeck's writing is so lovely, even when the plotting is not quite the master class of his earlier works.

Het vervolg op Cannery Row. Dit boek begon heel goed, met een aantal overpeinzingen van Doc. Daarna gaat het verhaal meer over hem (je ziet hem veelal vanuit andere personages) dan dat je Doc echt zelf beter leert kennen. Dat vond ik jammer. Alsnog weer een prima boek van Steinbeck, maar niet een van de betere.
