Powerful combination of poetry and drama. It walks the line between the two and draws you into a spare story of resistance and oppression. I went in unsure of what to expect and was swept up in the narrative, finishing this in just a sitting or two.

This was a brilliant, moving, sad piece of writing. Kaminsky creates an eerie, timeless scene for this narrative collection of poems, that provides a backdrop for an exploration of human cruelty, suffering, and resilience that could be set a hundred years ago, or today. Read if you are prepared to grapple with deep questions of personal responsibility in the face of horror.

This book was shockingly brilliant. I read reviews and elsewhere and had been following the author for about, so I knew I’d enjoy it, but was not expecting it to be nearly as poignant and connected to the times as it is. I appreciated, more than anything else, the way the author connected the two main “stories” in the book: his time in the former Soviet Union and his time in the United States. And the way he did it... was masterful.
