This may be a new series but I felt like I missed out on a ridiculous amount of character history by not reading any other books by this author. I was bored by the never ending list of characters and the story line. I should have started with a different book it seems.

The wit of these characters is amazing, the dialogue left me laughing in fits every couple pages it seems. The split POV was a nice thing to see in this book, keeping Layla relevant and all, but her chapters just seemed a bit off compared to Nate's chapters overall. A very nice start to a new part of the story and it's nice to see how all the named characters are being kept consistent and showing up consistently with such a large cast.

DNF 48% I sometimes complain that books read like someone journalled an RPG. Well, this is like somebody dramatised a board game. Something like Risk, with Realms as the countries.
I had a bad feeling when there was a list of more than forty dramatis personae at the beginning. I mustn’t be too rude as I’m obviously picking this up in the middle of an already well established series. There’s lots of running around and violence of the kind you might find in a Steven Segal film (back when he was vaguely fit) Guns are lovingly named, but there’s not much in the way of character development.
The passages set on Earth were at least marginally plausible, but the alternate story line read like some kind of mythological travelogue. I ended up skimming those sections because nothing in them seemed to have much relevance to the action Earthside. I suppose they might have done by the end of the book, but I ran out of patience.

PLEASE NOTE: if you are coming to this novel/series straight from the Hellequin Chronicles series, consider the Avalon Chronicles series, which centers around a different main character, Layla Cassidy. I don't think it's too spoiler-y to tell you that her story weaves throughout Sorcery Reborn. I personally wish I'd know that before I'd started this series.

I'm much more comfortable giving this one a 4 star, as compared to the series finale for the Hellequin Chronicles. I feel like there was more resolution in the last part of this novel, compared with Scorched Shadows. That said, this is more of a start for what's to come.

I do feel like this is one of the few times Nathan does more than get beat up - a lot. It still happens, but our
Spoiler temporarily human protagonist not only holds his own with most of the people he comes into conflict with, but he manages to destroy Balder in a one-on-one battle.

For the audiobook fans, the two lines of the story, Nate's and Layla's, are read by separate narrators, which is very helpful in keeping the lines apart. Both did well with their parts.

A fantastic re-introduction of my personal favorite main characters, Nathan Garret. Very well written, with a good mix of badassery, humor, and emotion, among other things (as usual!) Sad to finish it, but so excited for the next in the series!

FINALLY Nate is back. Oh how I missed him... While any book of by the author I read has been really amazing, Nate still is my personal favourite character. I loved following his way from Crimes against magic to here - and I'm so glad to finally have him back and find out what happened to him in the meantime and what'll happen next!

And this didn't disappoint! I loved it from start to finish and devoured the whole thing in 1,5 days. We get to see so many old friends again and once again meet new ones. The characters are still as amazing and the snark and sarcasm is strong and had me snort more than once.

My only - very slight - annoyance with this one was the frequent mentions of sex, which felt a few too much and so started to feel a hit repetitive which always bugs me. As with all but the first book there is no actual graphic sex scenes though.

Aside from that - action, tone, voice, plot and characters once more absolutely and fully on point and a real pleasure to read!

Well, darn. This didn't work out like I expected. This is a straight follow on to his previous series, which I only read the first book of. Sigh. Now I'm back to that series, because I loved this even though I didn't understand parts based on the previous series.
