Entertaining and well written, though if I ever met the protagonist in real life I'd find him intolerable.

Love, love, love! What an epically fun, laugh-out-loud adventure this book was. Heros and villains existing in a grey area where it's not simply good vs evil - not in a dark, depressing narrative, but rather lighthearted and adventurous one.

I was hesitant to read this and it was on my to-be-read list for a long time because in my experience light hearted comedic books like this are also annoyingly shallow and juvenile. Not this one! It has snark, humor, sarcasm, and has enough depth to keep me entertained.

If this was made into a movie it would become a cult classic black comedy with a happy ever after.

Love For The Cold-Blooded is highkey one of my favourite books of all time. On my initial read of the book I paused it because I was too afraid of angst, but I made a really good decision by going back because it was simply fantastic!
This book deals with everything in a light, mostly non-serious manner but still the amount of depth present was wonderful. I adore Pat with all my heart. He is a really good main character and his growth throughout the book was a sight to see.
And Nick, Nick my beloved. I love him beyond words. Nick and Pat’s relationship was so lovely too. It had its ups and downs, but the way their romance developed, and how we got to see both of them slowly starting to be vulnerable and soft with each other had me metaphorically sobbing.
The superhero/supervillain stuff, and Pat’s family were absolutely brilliant too.
5/5 to this book I have already read 3 times by the time I am writing this review.

A fun read. More so than I expected. A lighthearted tale with a lot of comical twists and turns.

The setting is a world much like our own where superheroes and villains are commonplace. A reality where the villains might not be as evil as everyone thinks. Where being a villain, or, as the call them selves, a challenger, is a sort of family business. So even if you really have no aspiration to follow in the footsteps of your parents, you're at least obligated to occasionally do your duty as a minion.
If you then work part time for one of the super hero and accidentally begin to date said hero complicated situations will arise. Hilarious, funny situations.

To me this was a perfect fun read on a cold grey autumn afternoon.

My only objection was that it was a little slow in grabbing my full attention.

I like it at first but by the end, I just want it to be over. I like the romance but after
Spoiler Nick and Pat got back together
, the story should be wrapped up or at least ready to ends. Instead we still got 30% more to go. This book is way too long for something that didn’t want to take itself seriously.

Oh my god this book was exactly what I needed: light and hilarious and staying just this side of irreverent without being "zany" or "wacky", sweet and romantic without losing the humor or sarcasm, and a story set in a world of superheroes that flirts with the ideas of sides and outlooks and circumstances without being judgmental or moral. All in all, a fantastic, fun read, but also stupendously long.

It reminds me in all the best ways of the heyday of Shousetsu Bang Bang: a great story told by nerds for nerds where it's clear the author loved what they were writing. A story with a fresh outlook on circumstances and situations we've seen over and over, an answer to the "well, what if this" we're familiar with from fandom but told in their own world and imagining and executed flawlessly.

I'm in love with the fact that Pat's family is so supportive and great at every turn - in the midst of all the superhero showdowns, it's the human moments between Pat and Nick and Pat and his family that really make the book shine, and when two people are just as likely to meet in a coffee shop as they are on a rooftop because one's been snatched up by a supervillain (sorry, challenger, and besides, she's an old family friend, you know how that is), or in a secret (okay, not so secret, no one wants to be waiting forever once a showdown is ready to take place and you're ready to set plans into action) lair, it brings a sense of balance and really grounds the setting, making it all the more charming.
