Thich Nhat Hanh’s insight into Buddhism is a relaxation and compelling voice that gets down to the essentials of Buddhism as a whole and more specifically the Zen tradition. This book was a wonderful look at Christianity through Buddha’s eyes. While I’m sure that Christians do not feel the same (and many feel that Buddhism’s is a deeply inferior religion) Master Hahn’s guidance allows us to see them in a more compassionate light. There is no Christianity without Buddhism and no Buddhism without Christianity.

It’s rare I have trouble writing a review. Then again, it’s rare I review a book of this nature. How often do you review a true book of religion without it being religious, but spiritual? Spiritual in the truest sense. How do you review the revered and “holy” books of a certain religion, any religion? You can’t, but you can, kind of, in a way. I’ve never read The Bible, or any other “holy text” of an ancient religion. I’m not a fan of organized religion. You can say I hate the concept. I do. Perhaps I’ve read “a bible” in a sense. A book to use in combination with bits of other religions and philosophies. I know I have, and while reading Thich Nhat Hanh’s 1997 Living Buddha, Living Christ, I’ve found a top rated, top shelf favorite...

Going through this book gave me a few really amazing revelations. I really enjoyed the books overall message pointing out that Jesus and Buddha’s overall message are very similar! It’s a book I’d highly recommend to Christians that are interested or curious about Buddhism.

Not only are there great insights into the similarities between Jesus and Buddha, but this book also shares a lot about what living like Buddha, or living like Christ, would look like today - which if you’ve read Thich Nhat Hanh before, you’ll get much of what you’d expect and probably will have read before. And this leads to why I’ve docked it a star: I felt like I’ve read a lot of it before.

Thich Nhat Hanh manages to take a fraught topic like religion and make it all seem so reasonable. So kindhearted. And we need that energy now more than ever.

I loved the parallels between Christianity (the way it was intended) and Buddhism. And the way he came round and round and round to the point that no one wins, nothing is gained, when we can't respect each other's heritage and traditions--and leave some space open for the idea that perhaps there is more than one way to believe.

This book brought a lot of sanity and grounding back into my world. It reminded me of the comfort and freedom I find in Buddhism, and that many of those teachings are bolstered by what I learned about the life of Jesus as a kid.

Highly recommend this one,.
