It was ok for a repairman Jack novels. I've read later ones and they are better, but it was good to go back and get the background.

I first discovered Repairman Jack back around '02 or '03 working in the box office at Regal Cinemas. It's tough to remember back that far, but I think it was actually this book that I read back then. And I was hooked back then. Absolutely loved it. So much so, that I decided to try going for the whole "Secret History of the World" series as opposed to just Repairman Jack. The problem is it didn't hold my attention. Not that the few books I read weren't good, quite the contrary. It just wasn't my style.

I'm trying to push aside my inherent completionist nature and just do what brings me joy. And boy, did this book bring me joy. I immediately picked up All the Rage and I plan on that being my first book of 2025! I can't wait to see where this story goes and how far into this "otherness" Jack gets.

Up until the last third of the novel everything was going swimmingly: well drawn quixotic characters, an intriguing mystery slowly unravelled, along with hints of the broader Repairman Jack saga, but then it all gets sucked down the maw of a voracious expository monster from the info dump of hell.

Pity. Surely there was some other means of laying the groundwork for the Adversary series without having to resort to: "So, Mr. Bond, would you like to know my dastardly plan to take over the world?"

Somehow I missed this as I was going through the Repairman Jack series. It answered some questions I had but raised more. Maybe they will be answered in later books. Love Jack...

A very exciting ending to this adventure. Where will Repairman Jack go from here?

I approached this one out of loyalty to friends whose book recommendations I highly respect. The Repairman Jack series is always at the top of their lists. But frankly I was a little apprehensive because up to this point I had found the series to be good but not outstanding. I knew from reading various reviews that there is a large supernatural element to the series but it was fairly minor (monster of the week) in the first book (The Tomb) and non existent in the second (Legacies). It's almost as if Mr Wilson was struggling with exactly what kind of novels these were to be...supernatural? horror? mystery? other?

I need not have worried though. This novel was different, a super read in fact. Now I know why so many others swear by this series and this character. These books are very difficult to genre-classify, containing elements of mystery, thriller, horror, sci-fi, and perhaps even fantasy. This book really gets the overall series story arc going, letting us in on "the otherness" and whatever that might exactly be. Couching the secret behind-the-scenes mystery in the middle of a convention of conspiracy theorists is masterful and Mr Wilson pulls this off brilliantly. We are just as skeptical as Jack is when confronted with the very real happenings taking place all around him and, apparently, with himself in the center of it all. And just like Jack, we're not sure who are the good guys and who are the bad. I found this book to be marvelous and I very much look forward to further adventures of Repairman Jack as I get to experience more revelations of the supernatural aspects of the story. And to top it all off, it's a very good mystery novel as well!

The main characters have a habit of criticizing just about everything different. I'm okay with laughing at "environmentalist wackos" and the like, but calling Christianity a myth and the Bible something dreamed up is a bit much.
