A decent start to the Maximum Ride series. The artwork was phenomenal!! I have read a later book in the actual book series (not the manga) since the series is mega extensive, and I somehow still cannot remember that Maximum Ride is femme.

I love this graphic novel. It talks about Maximum Ride and all the other characters that have the same type of powers as her. Also they have wings which is so epic. I like how it also explains how they aren't excepted into this world and how people just want to experiment on them. Or think they are freaks. It's really interesting. Also she found out there is a chip in her body and that's probably how erasers find them. It's really great.

"Maximum Ride Vol.1" by NaRae Lee and James Patterson follows 14-year old Maximum Ride (Max) and her flock Iggy, Fang, Nudge, Fang, and Izzy who have wings and can fly as they go to resuce Angel who was captured by "The School" who experiment on them.

I would give "Maximum Ride Vol.1" by NaRae Lee and James Patterson a 5-star review because, I like all of the main characters especially Max and Fang, this reminds me alot more of a manga than a graphic novel, and the story telling and artwork are wonderful.

I eat this stuff up. Manga is so fascinating to me. I think I'd like nearly anything I could read in this style simply because of the storytelling itself. The close-ups, the facial expressions, the snapshots—it's like making a living, moving story out of a hundred still-life moments. And NaRae Lee killed it with this one.
I love the story idea too, though—it's probably something I'd pick up in prose format as well. It's the whole "lab experiment kids escape" idea, and those stories always have so much tense action and emotion. Recreating it as a graphic novel makes it even better.
I'm itching to get my hands on the next one.
