It’s been twelve years since June saw her arch nemesis Ryan.
Twelve years of “hating” him and picturing him as an ugly and greasy loser.
Why she would picture the hottest guy in school as suddenly ugly and greasy is still a mystery.
But now they’re in the same room and *surprise* he’s hot.
This is an “enemies” to lovers. As in they “hated” each other. But have secretly pined for one another since high school.
So while this is not a true enemies to lovers this book was adorable in that June thinks she’s doing a good job of pretending she doesn’t want Ryan.
The banter back and forth put a smile on my face more than once and I enjoyed the back and forth POV chapters.
It’s pretty cheese and predictable. The same old -
Girl - immature, dramatic and a little annoying.
Boy- Uber manly, gorgeous and too cool for school.
But in the end it was a fast and enjoyable read.

Eu vou ler qualquer livro da Sarah Adams. Seja qual for o género ou história, não há livro da autora que eu não pretenda ler. Neste momento, penso que li três livros e não arrependo-me nada.
The Enemy conta a história de June e Ryan que desde crianças, pareciam comunicar á base do ódio. Depois de doze anos, June reencontra Ryan na festa de solteira de uma amiga, mas é surpreendida quando Ryan parece adotar um comportamento totalmente diferente aquilo que seria suposto. Ryan parece feliz em rever June e é simpático quando trocam algumas palavras por breves momentos. June promete não perder este jogo que Ryan parece estar a jogar até porque June não consegue ultrapassar o facto que Ryan a rejeitou quando ela decidiu dar o primeiro passo e beijá-lo á 12 anos atrás. Admitir que se sentiu frustrada não era uma opção. Ryan no entanto, nunca odiou June e está de volta a Charleston para reescrever a história de ambos.
Eu não sei ao certo o que a autora coloca nas histórias dela. São livros que prendem completamente o meu ser desde a primeira até á última página. Para além de introduzir personagens que funcionam muito bem juntos, sabe também oferecer ao casal uma relação com momentos tensos, uma química incrível e uma humanidade que muitas vezes não conseguimos identificar em personagens fictícios. June sempre gostou de Ryan mas odiá-lo era mais facil do que admitir isso para ela mesma e Ryan também nutria sentimentos pela primeira - a única forma de chamar atenção de June era fazer o absurdo para ela reparar nele. Individualmente não poderiam ser mais diferentes, mas enquanto casal funcionaram muito bem.
Adoro que os livros da Sarah não têm dramas desnecessários. Ryan era um chefe de cozinha bastante conhecido e prestes a conquistar mais um degrau na carreira profissional. O trabalho dele questionava pela presença dele forra de Charleston o que não agradava ambos, mas acabou por ser discutido e os dois fizeram que a situação resultasse de alguma maneira. Nenhum precisou de desistir de nada. Sou cada vez mais fã deste tipo de romances e até hoje, só conheço romances deste género escritos apenas pela autora.
É um bom livro para ler em pouco tempo. Penso que demorei cerca de três dias a completar a história e é um livro que recomendo bastante, caso ainda não tenha ficado claro.
Eu descobri tarde de mais que estava a ler o segundo livro da série sem ler antes o primeiro, que pelo o que consegui reter deste, conta a história do irmão da June. Confesso que se calhar foi porque li ambas a sinopses e acabei por gostar mais desta, mas depois de ler alguns detalhes sobre o primeiro livro, a minha curiosidade ficou á espreita para começar e perder-me totalmente. Coisa que pretendo fazer assim que possível.

I love Sarah Adams’ writing. It makes me smile and giggle, and I love every second. This book and these characters had more potential than what this book delivered, but I’m also judging it against her newer books and her more experienced writing, which isn’t fair to this book. I’d love to read a 2023 Sarah Adams version of this though. It needs about 100 more pages and more scenes of the 2 MCs actually falling in love, but I still really enjoyed it.

I’m on a mission to read Sarah Adams’s catalog, and this was a fun and breezy listen with heart! Enemies to lovers and second chance joy. The writing didn’t pop as much as Adams’s later work, and I was hoping for a liiiittle more exposition and character development. Overall a fun story!
